Four of the main characters in the Nov. l-3 presentation of the Tender Trap were Shelly Connery, Russell Sawders, Laurie Wilson and Bill Craig. In contrast to the gradually cooling November days, enthusiasm and spirit soared as the Monarchs climaxed the '67 football season with a 6-3 record and took third place in district. The Donkey Basket- ball game proved a fastmoving and fun experience for all as dauntless Monarchs mounted their don- keys representing their class. 55 . ti !'s.. The Albuquerque High Bulldogs end up in a dog pile as Bruce Markham takes to the air. Albuquerque High won 46-10 in the the Nov. 10 game. A unique satisfaction was the note at Thanksgiv- ing when the homeroom classes collected cans of fruits, vegetables and soups for the city's needy. Mo- narchs crowded the school theater to see the club production of The Tender Trap , a witty, urbane comedy. The excitement of November was undenia- bly matched by the Monarchs this year, in the stu- dent attitude toward activities and projects. An atmosphere of elegance mixed with excitement prevailed over the entire student body on the eighth annual Monarch Day. An assembly, where Queen Trish Rattan, her princesses, and court were introduced, began the day's festivities. During the exciting Homecoming game, the Monarchs scored a victory over the Los Alamos Hilltoppers, The Marching Band presented a halftime performance, and Trish and her princesses, Sherryl Sharp and Laurie Wilson, were presented with the traditional footballs by the tri-captains. The day was climaxed by the Mon- arch Day Dance that evening as couples danced to the music of Sol Chavez and the Duke City Brass, and the Homecoming royalty was presented again. The day drew to a close leaving unforgettable memories in the minds of all Monarchs. This year's recipients of the Optimist Youth Leadership Award at Manzano were Pat Parke and Mark Floyd. They were announced in late October and honored at an Optimist Club banquet along with honorees from all of the city high schools, Couples at the Homecoming Dance surround the refreshment table for some punchand cookies.
