Principal Jewell Brown and baseball coach Henry Jacobs present the state baseball trophy to the student body. The Month of May saw a continuance of spring time activi- ties and a look to the future. Varsity cheerleaders were elected to serve during the '67-'68 sports seasons, and scholastically talented juniors were initiated into the National Honor Society. The Monarchs' baseball team finished its most successful sea- son, placing first in state. The Chihuahua trip gave language students four days of enjoyment and cultural experiences. In all aspects, May was a month of excitement and pleasure for the entire student body. me uw' T9.1,zc2f The successful baseball season resulted with Manzano receiving the 1967 State Championship in baseball,

Students hurriedly sign each other's annuals after the Annual Assembly May 25, 1967. Jimmy Reed throws the javelin at one of the many track meets last spring. May Activities Denotd End of School Year Cheerleader Clinic National Honor Society Initiation Chihuahua Trip Press Banquet Cheerleader Elections Slave Sale Junior-Senior Prom Spanish Honor Society Banquet Russian Club Banquet Choral Concert Senior Week Annual Assembly Graduation Exercises One of the unusual projects sponsored by the Junior Class was the Junior Jolliesf' Personal items of students and faculty were auctioned.

Ronnie Hatcher, editor of the 1967 Scepter unveils the yearbook to the student body at the May 28th assembly. A couple crosses over the bridge that accentuated the Shangri-La theme of the prom. Couples dance to the music of the Lamplighters at the Junior-Sen- ior Prom. When May brought to a close the '66-'67 year, it was for many just the end of another school year, but for 554 seniors, the graduating class of 1967, it was also a beginning. But the memories of their high school days will not be lost in this new period of their lives. They will always remember the prom hosted by the junior classg they will remember the hectic activi- ties of Senior Week, initiated with the Annual As- sembly where editor Ron Hatcher presented to the student body the '67 Scepter and continuing with planned activities throughout the week. The climax of the entire month was graduation which opened the door of the future for the class of 1967.
