John Gaston, Orchestra instructor The Manzano Orchestra, directed by John Gaston, is com- prised of twenty-five talented young people interested in music. They derive vast pleasure from performing in concerts such as the one held before Christmas, and they serve Manzano by attending the annual Young Symphony, and the All-State competition. In this way Manzano is represented by an outstanding group where competition is stiff. Two of the outstanding student leaders of the orchestra are Bob Steider, president, and Craig Brown, manager. The orchestra has had a successful and entertaining year in the '67-'68 school term. 1967-68 Manzano High School Orchestra

Two branches of the music department which serve Manzano at special functions are the dance and marching bands. The Dance Band members share a special talent in the modern techniques of music. They devote a great deal of their spare time in order to practice so that their performances at Manzano and other schools will be exam- ples of maximum skill. The Manzano marching band members devote an hour before each school morning, during the football season to rehearse complicated for- mations and intricate precision drills. Their performances at games, both marching and in the stands, helps to promote spirit among spectators and players as well.
