For some students geometry, algebra elementary functions and the other math courses offered are simply not sufficient in satisfying their curiosity and enjoyment of math. c if f Barbara Whetstine, Shirley Bowney, Margaret Mucek, Linda Whetstine, Judy Wiley FTA Assists by Tutoring The Future Teachers of America organization was organized in order to provide , ways of giving students who are interested in teaching as a career a means of getting 5 early practice. In '67-'68 school term the Manzano F.T.A. sold candy in order to raise l dues to attend the January F.T.A. state convention. Besides this, the FTA members Sponsors: Harold Pian help teachers with paper grading and assignment planning, but the main project this Mrs- Mafgafet Th0mPS0 year was the tutoring program in nearby elementary schools. Sponsoring this purposeful group in '67-'68, are Mr. Harold Platt and Mrs. Marga- ret Thompson, with Linda Honts serving as the club president. The Loudspeakers of Manzano are probably the most appropri- ately named members of any organization, for they comprise the Manzano Speech Club, sponsored by Mrs. Susan Liston. Wherever Manzano is represented by these talented young speech students, it gains honors. Speakers can participate in several different categories involved in speech, novice gl senior debate, dramatic reading, oral interpretation, extemporaneous speaking 8: oratory. The Speech Club sold candy throughout December in order to raise funds for an out-of-town trip SL to pay N.F.L. dues. The Speech Club is made up of hard working, civic minded young people deter- mined to use their rights of free speech.
