Tennis Team Builds for Future Successes JAMES MURDOCH, coach Tennis coach, James Murdoch will be leading his team throughout the 1968 season into a tough schedule, competing with the other high schools in the district. Although only 2 of the 6 team members, Dave Daily and Charles Hickam, are returning from last years team, the group has the ability and desire to face the up-coming season enthusiastically. Murdoch commented hopefully on his under- classmen and predicted that with the material which is available the Monarchs will be fielding a fine squad for the next two seasons and they may develop rapidly enough to make a good showing this spring. Of the five team members, three of them, Joe Davalos, Dennis Ray and Craig Pierson, are returning from last year, when a sudden death play-off broke their second place tie in the state tournament and gave them the third place trophy. Coach Buddy Cook, as well as the Manzano student body, are looking for another fine performance by the team this year. The Baron golf team under the direction of Coach DuWayne Blackshear is also begin- ning practice sessions although the week-long teachers' strike delayed the beginning of all of the spring sports in the city.
