Coach Bill Wolffarth, head track mentor at Manzano for his eighth year, made guardedly opti mistic comments on the 1968 Monarch track squad at press time since the week-long teachers' strike had delayed the track season. We have more sophomores competing for us this year than ever before, our squad will have 22 sophomores, 12 Jun iors, and 11 seniors, and. we have fewer lettermen returning than ever before, so it is difficult to say what will develop by the end of the season? The best prospects for the season will be Terry Ashcraft in the pole vault and low hurdles, and Jimmy Reed in the shot put and discus. Ashcraft, a transfer from NMMJ, stands a good chance of breaking the state record should he continue to improve as he has in pre-season workout and Reed made some impressive showings as a sophomore. It's definitely a building year and with this good crop of sophs we can expect to make a fine showing in one or two seasons barring unforeseen mishaps? He commented that he can look forward to a particularly bright future in the
