The Manzano Monarchs basketball team, starting from scratch after having all but two of last years lettermen, closed their season with a record of 7 wins and 13 defeats. The Monarchs suffered a heartbreaking season, with 7 of their losses coming by less than six points. The roundballers temporarily shared the spotlight of last years Cinderella team when they took surprising up-set victo- ries over Valley and Del Norte. After having felt the impact of a seven game losing streak, the victory hungry Mon- archs travelled to the Farmington Invitational Tournament in late January and won four out of five games to take third place. After dropping Valley late in the season, the Monarchs were looking for upset number three when they journeyed to the district tour- nament. They unfortunately didn't get that upset as they fell to the hands of Albuquerque High in their first game 87-64.
