Rex Davis uses a single-leg take-down in trying to gain control of his opponent from Alamogordo. JOHN HIGHFILL 112 lst in district MIKE COX 165 4th in district Manzano wrestlers had bright hopes for the state wrestling tour- nament with three district champions and five others who finished in the top four at the district meet in Carlsbad. The teacher walkout ended these hopes very quickly. The three district champions were undefeated Jerry Smalley at 103, John Highfill at 112, and also un- defeated Teddy Newton at HWT. Other finishers were Lynn Wilson at 120, Robert Martinez at 133, Bob Myer at 145, Mike Cox at 165, and Rex Davis at 180. The Monarchs hopes look bright for next year with seven returning lettermen. An arm bar is used by Jerry Smalley in trying to pin his man from Alamog0rd0.
