The honor that will soon be yours will reflect credit on your parents, your school, and the community in which you live. You have taken advantage of one of the greatest blessings a state can bestow - a free education. The attainment of this worthy goal which you set for yourselves shows that you have ability and ambition. Our age is one of rapid change. American ideals of liberty, justice, and opportunity were won through struggle and sacrifice. The advantages we cherish have not been handed down fully developed. Every citizen has the responsibility of demonstrating the rightness of our traditions in everyday living. Your training for citizenship has included respect, under- standing, and good-will toward others. It is my hope that your lives will enrich your home communities by the fine quality of citizenship you are prepared to contribute.
