Printing! 1s'Jlflas'sz1ge TO THE GRADUATES: Certain years in history are known to historians as Years of Decision. For you, 1957 will live in your memories as such a year. This is the year that some of you have decided upon continuing your education so well begun at Manual. Some of you are now deciding on where your first job will be. Many of you boys are deciding whether to enter the Armed Forces immediately, to complete the required military service that will be your contribution to the security of our country. Up to now, one year's activity has followed almost automatically from the last. From now on, you will be facing a series of Years of Decision in which your choice of alternatives will determine your happiness and your success in life in very impor- tant ways. Wihich course will you major in at college? Should you change your job? Whom should you marry? Should you buy your own home? Some decisions are obviously important at the time you must make them. Others do not seem so impor- tant at the time, and are lightly made, only to be regretted in years to come. Often a series of small decisions,unimportant in themselves, freeze into a pattern of life that is very difhcult to change. How can you be sure that the decisions you must make are wise ones? The education you have so far received should stand you in good stead if you are will- ing to use it. Getting all the information available, discussing your problems with persons with relevant experience, carefully weighing advantages and disadvantages, are all part of the process of deciding wisely. Doing all these things before the actual decision is upon you is a must. Making your own decision, rather than drifting and letting events make the choice for you, is very important. Most important of all is to make your choices within the framework of a sound philosophy of what you want out of life, and to make them according to a code of moral values. Too many adults live very empty lives because they have made their choices Qtheir vocations, the persons they marry, and the ways in which they spend their leisure timej without considering the spiritual needs that every human being must satisfy in order to live fully. May all your decisions be good ones, and correspondingly wise. Edward L. Korey Principal
