Student Council is to develop leadership, self-control, self-respect, and to organize a wholesome program of student activities that will be of benefit to the school and community. Each member is trained in the ways of a democratic government through student participation, and each is required to have a working knowledge of the constitution, the purpose, aims and objectives, and an understanding of the organization's program of work.

THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE STUDENT COUNCIL In the picture above are the members of the executive committee of the Student Council, which is composed of the officers of the council and the five class presidents. From left to right, they are Qstandingj: Patricia Twine Qreporterj, Margo Sims fassistant secretaryj, Arvella Glasco qchaplainj, Harry Robinson Qsophomore class presi- denty, Allen Counts qsenior class presidentj, and Jesse Chandler qjunior class presidentj. Seated: Beatrice Reed Qsecretaryj, Paul Manuel Qparliamentarianj, Claude Thomas Qtreasurerj, Leonard Carter Qvice-presidentj, and Walter Rivers qpresidentj. As set forth in the constitution of the Student Council, this committee has these distinct duties: Q11 To draw up the agenda for Student Council meetings. Q25 To study reports of committees and make recommendations to the council. Q31 To transact business as it sees fit with the permission of the council and the administration.
