Which means that it is fourth period and time for library. Now for a good book and a tranquil place in some deserted corner. Ah-sweet mystery of life at last I've found you- in the darkened house, silence reigns, except for the monotonous tick of the old grandfather clock in the hall. It strikes twelve. A cruel noise issues from the staircase, followed by a blood curdling scream to pierce the still of the night- Put down that rubber band Johnny, don't you dare shoot me l The girl next to you has dis- tracted your attention and you'Ve lost interest in the story, but-such is life, full of trials and tribulations. Thousands of books line the towering shelves of the library, awaiting the touch of a hand, a nod of recognition, they file past, each begging attention. Some books are large, some small, some wide, some thin. Some books are light in vein, others bear great names-great thoughts. The scratching of pencils and rustling of papers breaks the stillness. A girl comes to the front and presents a report on the Culture of the Greeks . She is followed by a panel discussion on Life in the Time of Pericles . A bell rings followed by a shuffle of feet as the class changes. As the new group enters we hear the following remarks: 'fWe get those test papers back today. What did you put for the reasons for the World War? How did you describe the Treaty of Versaillesffl' The teacher steps up with yellow papers in hand, student monitors distribute them and sighs of relief or groans of despair are interspersed with whispered comments. Again-the bell followed by the shuflie of feet. The incoming students rush to a table, hurriedly thumb through magazines and papers, and dash for their seats as the chairman calls for order.
