Manual High And Vocational School Kansas City, Missouri Manual's vast and stately structure is now celebrating her sixtieth year of learning. Throughout her three score years, multitudes of students both young and old have thronged her classrooms, shops, and halls. They have been aided liberally to meet their life's problems and are sincerely appreciative for their success in life. Hail to thee Manual High and Vocational School. 1907-1957 Foreword The years have witnessed The Nautilus, The Builder, and this year The Manualite is the school family album edited by Ethel Frith with the help of fellow class members. For the present and for the future may its leaves unfold many treasured memories. Yours For Happiness The Staff 2 Manual's Ode i Hail to thee, our dear old Manual, we would sing to thee. Your success in later life will depend largely on how well you invest in these values every day. Charles S. Dixon CHARLES S. DIXON Manual's Principal three years Manual's Principal May our education be used as an instrument to help sow light where there is darkness, kindness where there is hatred, pardon where there is injury, faith where there is doubt, hope where there is despair, joy where there is sadness, and to seek not so much to be understood as to understand. Manual's Vice-Principal Be Strong We are not here to play, to dream, to drift. We have hard work to do and loads to lift. Shun not the struggle; face it; 'tis God's gift. Babcock GIRARD T. BRYANT 8 Manual s Counselors IISS Ml MASTER! ' MfMWiEEl.tR Students bring problems - all kinds of them - to the counselors; sometimes they are personal, sometimes educational, sometimes vocational, but always counselors try to help in solutions that are best for the student. 9 Manual's Co-Ordinator Life is like a ladder; every step we take is either up or down. The higher men climb, the longer the working day. Leaders have no office hours. Manual students should strive for perfection in their work then we will be assured of the true meaning of these words- Half finished work generally proves to be labor lost. Accuracy means harmony, and error is discord. MR. I. P. MARTINEZ 10 Office Helpers To Miss Sexton we owe much gratitude for her patience in our many problems. She keeps our scholas- tic records in the most excellent condition. These facts are at her fingertips in a matter of seconds and minutes. Such accuracy and promptness are most worthy assets in this great school of ours - Manual High and Vocational School. o MRS. LILLIAN E. STARK Secretary MRS. MILDRED EASTMAN Secretary MRS. CLARICE CROSBY Attendance Clerk Operations Management The management of an educational institution requires the utmost co-operation of all the personnel. Mr. James Boyd is responsible for the smooth operations of all departments of Manual High and Vocational School. MR. OLIVER B. MINNEY, who for many years was the school engineer. His sole thought was to provide adequate heat. A comfortable body lends to a contented mind. God bless his retire- ment days. MRS. ERVA WISER at school before dawn, planning preparing and cooking the meals for the student body and all employees. Hall to a well nourished body. MRS. DOROTHY C. NOFFTZ, who helps our cafeteria customers realize their obligations. Honesty Is the best policy. 12 Manual's Custodians GLEN A. BALLINGER ALBERT L. Walton is shown at her desk in her well-equip- ped room. The entire lesson is most enjoyable as noted in the facial expressions. This brings good return in improving our personal appearance and our sense of well-being. Few people can carry themselves with a queenly air if the heels of their hose, or the elbows of their coats are in holes. The person who says, I have nothing to wear us- ually has failed to give her clothes the proper care. These are some of the very valuable ideas we have learned in Mrs. Farnsworth's homemaking class.
