Activities such as the tug-of-war, girls Softball . throw, the obstacle course, and finally the relay have added to the thrillandexcitement generated by the rivalr y among the two classes. IThe class that wins the most points in the athletic competition, re- ceives the athletic trophy. The class which shows the most spirit, either in defeat or in victory, receives the coveted sportsmanship trophy . This senior day proved to be not only exciting, but victorious for the class of Winter ' 65 for they won the athletic trophy. The class of Summer ' 64 won the sportsmanship trophy. This day was significant for the Le Choisis class because they presented their class sweaters, colors, name and motto to the av ' aiting Student Body. They marched onto Wilson Field wearing the fashionable colors of powder blue and olive green. This was a very successful Senior Day because both classes showed much of their spirit and enthusiasm to the entire Student Body. J, .MVZ ,X f ., f- , , ' v- ? Although graduation is assuridly a time of unquestionable joy and happiness, most of us find that deep in our hearts there is also sadness. Sadness because we are forever closing the door on a blissful stage of life and because we are bidding a final farewell to a place which has served as our second home for so many years. The road which we must travel in the future is a hard one, but we feel that the knowledge which we have gained while attending Manual Arts will cushion many of the bumps. We may no longer claim the sanctuary of youth, but the training which we have received at Manual Arts will make it unnecessary. The LES CHOISIS are sad to leave, but we are thankful that we have been given the opportunity to be a part of this great institution. Manual Arts our Alma Mater and it will always hold a special place in our hearts. Because of it, it IS now possible of us to face the future armed with the most powerful weapons — knowledge, courage, and determination. To Manual we now say au revolt. Just to say goodbye is not possible because this school Will always be a part of us. We will never be able to forget what we have learned here. Our leading desire is to be worthy of the faith and trust which you have placed in us. Oh Manual May We Never Bring But Honor To Tliy Name. Michele Washington Student Body President A. B. S. After starting the season with a humiliating loss to Dorsey (26-9), the Varsity Eleven gained enough mo- mentum to overpower Jefferson, Washington, Los Angeles, and Fremont to corral the league title. The most impressive win for the Toilers was a 20-14 victory over previously undefeated Los Angeles High in league competition. Unfortunately for Manual Arts, the Romans also represented Southern League in the battle for the City Championship. In the play- offs. Manual Arts subdued a tough Roosevelt team by a score of 40 -20 at Gardena High, but lost to Los Angeles High (14-7) in the semifinals. This was Gil Rosadilla ' s first year as head Varsity Football coach and he did a very commendable job in replacing Coach Jim Blewett vsrho retired last year. His brilliant coaching produced a league title and almost the City Crown. r VlW-iV i MANUAL ARTS 9 - DORSEY 25 SS k Fletcher Sykes Sr LI I 5 ' 7 155 Lloyd Walter Sr 5 ' 10 165 Rufus Snoddv Sr LB V, Fred Bolden Jr DE 5 ' 11 180 V % Martin Hamilton Sr E 5 ' 10 170 W J? Senior day is of special importance because it represents the climax of the rivalry between the two senior classes. On this long awaited day, the Senior Bee class revealed their sweater color, emblem and name. The LES ENCHANTES class of S ' 65 (800 strong) across Wilson Field donned in canary yellow and white. At the end of the athletic events, the LES CHOISIS class of W ' 65 had won the athletic trophy while the LES ENCHANTES had won the sportsmanship trophy. With your cooperation, my term has been successful and worthwhile. As your President, I have tried to establish a harmonious atmosphere for both teachers and students. Many obstacles were planted in our path, the greatest being the loss of our well-Uked principal, Mr. Richard Cooper. But another man just as capable and well-liked was sent our way. He is Manual ' s present principal, Mr. Robert Denahy. With his help. Manual Arts has been able to carry on its heritage. Looking back, this semester has indeed been a most challenging one. But despite this, you as Manualites have come through with flying colors and degrees of honor. Every student and teacher carried in his mind and heart the magic words, It can be done . Together we ' ve shared joys, and together we ' ve suffered defeats, but the important thing is, we have stood together . In closing, 1 leave this pledge to every remaining Manualite: Be determined; work hard for what you feel is right; and above all, stick together. If you must go down, go down fighting. Live up to the goal every Manualite has been faced with through the years; Oh Manual, may we never bring but honor to thy name.
