Qzfewaml Manual's heritage is truly colorful and rich in achieve- ment and in its spirit of adventure and services. ln 1909, the school started out as a stepping stone to the four year high school, but since the need was so great, it was established as a full high school where it stands now on Vermont. Here the building-together, the pride, and most of all the unity and hard work were all estab- lished and became part of our heritage. Through the years of depression and war and the time of the earth- quake, the It can be done spirit of the students and faculty has given thepresent students a pride in their school and the incentive to hold up its traditions and ideals. All the graduating senior classes will carry with them the rich legacy of Manual's culture. But, also, they will leave behind a little of their ovvn spirit to contribute to the culture, making it rich, colorful and meaningful for the generations to come after them. Every student com- ing into Manual Arts, contributes his part to the accumu- lation of values known as traditions, and in turn becomes a heir to the rich legacy of Manual's culture. B-ut what can we .say is culture? Culture, in reference to Manual Arts, is a deep, true, and underlying loyalty which is inherent from class to class. It feeds on drama, art, and music. lt expresses itself through a devotion to intel- lectual achievements. lt involves an excellence in sports and an unequaled spirit of sportsmanship. Our culture is the manifestationof alllloy which the past students lived, imbodied in our traditiohs and spirit. Even today, five decades later, tradition plays an important part in our activities during our three years here at Manual. We enioy activities such as Rally Day, Homecoming Day, and the senior hop and prom. These traditions have been perpetuated by former teachers and alumni. Now it is our responsibility to pass our cultural heritage on to future students. If the many traditions and ideals inherited from the past are reflected on the future by us, it vvill continue on in the highest form. Manual's cultural heritage will stand long after the buildings are gone.
