BUMP, SET, SPIKE! The 1987 Varsity Volleyball team ended their season with a record of 13 wins and 11 losses. The team was led by captain Stacie Durst and had five players named All- Conference. Stacie Durst, Chris Hettinger, Kim Renner, Robyn Gerving, and Brenda King . Throughout the season the team participated in many scrimmages and tourna- ments. At the Kenyon Tournament they beat West Con- cord 15-5, 15-6, and Medford 15-1, 15-13. Then they met Kenyon in the championship game, and took them to three games before losing by a very close score of 1-15, 15- 12, 15-17. At the John Marshall Tournament they played Chatfield 13-15, 15-6, 15-17, New Prague 14-16, 16-14, 7- 15, and Minnetonka 15-13, 7-15, 15-17. Then the team spent two days at Apple Valley where they faced Annan- dale, winning 5-15, 16-14, 15-4, Tracy-Milroy, losing 7-15, 15-0, Breck, winning 15-10, 15-2, and Luverne, losing 13- 15, 10-15. In District play K-M was seeded fifth and re- ceived a bye in the first round. In the second round they faced a tough Zumbrota Mazeppa team. K-M came out strong and took the first game 15-9 but then Zumbrota got stronger and took K-M 7-15, 12-15, 1-15. This talented, hardworking group played some of the best volleyball ever played at KMHS. Pursuing the best competition possible, K-M faced 2 rated AA Lakeville and several other top-rated AA schools. In addition, K-M played 9 out of 32 Minnesota Class A District Champions in either scrimmages or matches. The JV compiled a 5-1 record and finished 2nd at the tough Mayo JV tourna- ment. The 1987-88 Football season was a great one as coach Dennis Yell and tri-captains Jason Cartney, Dave Otomo, and Dane Head helped lead the team to a 7-3 season. Having the best team in the Hiawatha Valley League was ori- ginally the goal of the team, but after achieving that with little difficulty, the dome was next. Unfortunately St. Charles stopped us short of that goal 6-7. K-M dominated the All-Confer- ence with 7 players: Bobby Gullickson, Pat Bi- gelow, Jason Cartney, Dane Head, Jon Bu- chanan, Steve Walker, and Dave Otomo. Over- all, a great season, thanks guys! 1987 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE Byron 0 7 Lourdes 12 0 Winona Cotter 29 12 Stewartville 26 0 Caledonia 27 0 Holy Angels 14 21 Pine Island 7 0 Lake City 34 13 Blooming Prarie 27 8 St. Charles 6 7 All-Conference: Bobby Gullickson, Pat Bigelow, Jason Cart- ney, Dane Head, Jon Buchanan, Steve Walker, and Dave Otomo. 15 Football
