(BACK ROW) Mark Larsen, Mike Terry, Robin Maxson, Joe Draheim, Ron Henrichs, Dennis Dorschner, Tom Dahms. In 1982 Kasson-Mantorville concluded its most successful season in the history of the school. The Komets completed the year 10 and 2 overall and won the Hiawatha Valley League title with a 5-1 record. K-M capped a successful season with playoff victories of 13-0 over West Concord and a very impressive 24-8 defeat of Chatfield. The finale of the season was an 8-0 semifinal loss at the hands of eventual State Class B Champion LeCenter. CLASS B STATE SEMIFINALS 1. Two-time All-Conference running- back Scott Rendler was picked Most Valuable Back by his teammates. 2. Coaches Yell and Kroulik discuss the game with quarterback, punter, and kicker Dennis Dorschner. Dennis was also chosen All-Conference on of- fense. He was voted Most Valuable Player by the team. 3. Captains Mike Kelley and Lane Cunningham were both selected as All-Conference line- men: Lane was chosen on both offense and defense, and Mike on offense. Mike was also voted Most Valuable Lineman. 4. Sophomore standout Bry- an Suess had a great year. He was selected to the All- Conference team as a tight end on offense and a lineman on defense. Pat O’Dea and Bob Bondy were voted Most Improved Players. 5. Although there were individuals who stood out, the success of the Komets was a result of an inspired team effort.
