The Kasson-Mantorville Future Homemakers of America chapter has had an excellent year. Membership was extended to the seventh and eighth graders and a lot of interest was shown. Our chapter has been very active this year in such things as: sponsoring the Mr. Legs dance at which Craig Allen was crowned Mr. Legs and Greg Simons and Todd Eidem were runners up; having a teacher's tea; serving breakfast for the varsity athletes and coaches; selling creative circle needlework kits; selling candy; participating at the FHA-FFA fun night at the elementary school gym; and our end of the year trip to the New Zoo and shopping at Burnsville with the student council. Also this year we had several girls attend the district meeting in Mable and three members: Shelly Ness, Sheryl Ness, and Shelly Jensen attended the state convention in Minneapolis. At our annual mother-daughter banquet we had as a guest speaker, Lilian Escoto, the 1981-82 AFS student. We had a potluck dinner, Mrs. Yell gave the chapter awards, and then the new officers for 1982-83 were installed. The new officers are: President Sheryl Ness, Vice-president Missy Yell, Secretary Shelly Jensen, Treasurer Staci Bigelow, Public Relations Chairperson Chris Ness, Recreation Leader Shelly Holecek, and FHA honey Robin Maxson. 39 IVisita A Espana! They visited Madrid, Avila, Segovia, La Escorial, Toledo, Barcelona, Alicante, Granada, and Torremo- linos. The students lived with Spanish families in Barce- lona for six days. The object of the trip was to get first- hand experience of the Spanish language and culture. 1. Departure from Minneapolis International Airport. 2. Penny and Amy washed jeans in the bathtub. 3. K-M volleyball compiled a 17-3 record and was ranked as high as 7th in the State Volleyball Coaches poll. Winners of the K.M. invi- tational, we finished as District 4 runner up to Kenyon. Balance was K.M.'s key strength this year. Raegan Bradford and Loree Meyer, our setters, were selected to the HVL All Conference team. Alisa Mienert led the team in hitting with Mary Tollefson second. Rhonda Jensen was our top point scorer from the service line with 143 points followed by Loree Meyer with 142 points. Passing and serve reception were team strengths with Diane Flughes leading by percentage points. Captain Loree Meyer deserves special mention. Much of our teams success was due to Loree's excellent leadership. The K.M. volleyball team is an excellent group of athletes. They are talented, hardworking and deserve the success they achieved. The 81-82 Boys Basketball season was the most successful season in many years for the KoMets. Winning 19 and losing only 3 games makes this years squad the top area team. It was a season of many highlights, including numerous come from behind victories. The KoMets won the conference championship for the first time in almost a decade. Going into the final league game against Zumbrota the KoMets were tied for the top spot with Cannon Falls. Fortunately the KoMets demolished Zumbrota while Cannon Falls was being upset by Stewartville, giving K.M. the outright title, with a 10-2 conference record. The KoMets entered the District tourney as the top seeded team. The team again rose to the occasion. After a 71-70 squeaker over Pine Island, they defeated Kenyon and Medford for their first ever District 4 Championship. In region play the KoMets drew powerhouse Winona Cotter and fell to the eventual State Cham- pionship The 81-82 season was one of many record setting performances and will stand out in many years to come. Now, where did he go this time? Graduation 1982 One Step At A Time . . . But Always Forward From left to right: Julie Kleist (Commencement Address), John Oehlke (Commencement Address), Jane Wilcox (Commencement Address), Loree Meyer (Commencement Address), Sigrud Anderson (Introduction of Speak- ers), S.J. Wenzel (Presentation of Class), Rev. Norman Deugan (Invocation and Benediction), Brad Lohrbach, Chairman of School Board (Awarding of Diplomas). The band played the processional and the members of the graduating class of 1982 marched to their seats and waited with expressions of joy and sadness for the ceremony to procede. The graduation speeches given reflected the moto of our class and the bright future for all of us. The time passed quickly and soon the graduates were called forward to receive their diplo- mas. We soon took the final step forward, never to return again to the school, each of us going our separate ways - one step at a time, but always forward. Acknowledgements We, Joe Brandli and Connie Ludvigsen, the editors of the 1982 yearbook would like to thank The Dodge County Independent for its assistance with photographs. We would also like to say thank- you to all who brought in photographs, that they wanted submitted into the annual, to make it more of a personal experience to the individuals of Kasson-Mantorville Jr.-Sr. High School. Also, we would like to extend a special thank-you to our yearbook advisor, Nancy Wiitanen, without whom this book would not have been possible. We hope this year's book is teeming with fond memories for each person in this school, so that everyone can remember the good times that have passed while experiencing those still ahead. I
