They finished fifth with 4 district champi- ons. The highlight of the dual meet season was our 26-21 win over a tough Wabasha-Kellogg squad. The victory was clinched by G. Fay's 11- 9 win over two time state qualifier Joe Wingert. The Komets graduate 4 hardworking seniors: S. Purvis, D. Ryan, T. Rasmussen, and G. Fay. I wish to thank these men for their contributions and wish them well in their post high school activities. Mr. Hodge is to be commended on his excellent job with the junior high wrestling program. They fin- ished with a spectacular meet against Byron winning 48-13 and an overall record of 6-6. Out- standing wrestlers Tim Zelinske and Gary Berge finished their sea- sons with records of 14-1 and 15- 1, respectively. Thanks to Coach Hodge the team gradually im- proved and shows great po- spects for the future years. individual achievements 1. Brothers Tom and Brett Rasmussen had very successful seasons: Brett finished sec- ond at the tough HVL tournament, first at districts, and was recognized for the fas- test pin of the season in 33 seconds. Co- captain Tom was voted the most valuable member of the team. He compiled 23 wins, the most of this season, and also had the most pins with 45. 2. Tom is shown here finishing second at the HVL tournament. It was the first of four very successful tournaments for him. He went to take first at Districts and second in the region. Tom would advance to the STATE TOURNAMENTS. Although he only wrestled two matches, he lost to the eventual champion in the first round. 3. Paul Stucky received the Tim O'Brien Award for the hardest working team mem- ber in practice. 4. Co-captain Garry Fay took third place in the HVL and was one of the District cham- pions. He ended the season with the most takedowns on the team, a total of 36. 5. BEAR is ready to wrestle. Although Lane lost this match, he went on to finish third in the HVL tournament. The Band's majorette, Denise Darling, pre- formed at all the parades, at the Homecom- ing Game, and at the Pops Concert. 3. Mr. Mike O'Neill presenting Chris Abel with the Band Directors Award. This year the band had a good group of it's members represent it at the district and regional music contests. Sunday, may 31, 1981 As the Sr. band played Pomp and Cir- cumstance (a song bringing mixed emo- tions from all present and past graduates) 79 graduating Seniors marched into,the high school gym. This was the day that'the 1981 graduating class said goodbye to the school which has given them all many memories to cherish now and in the future. The flower for the class of '81 was the Red Rose. Their class colors were Royal Blue and Baby Blue.
