K-JI Harriers The 1974-75 Cross Country team started their season at Fairbault. K-M was faced with a rebuilding year. Several injuries during the season to Jeff Wendler, Randy Ranvek, and Dave Christenson, slowed the team down. The annual K-M Jaycee meet was held in the normal down pour at the Zumbro Valley Golf Course. K-M had the best overall team race at Cannon Falls. For the future outlook, K-M will lose two lettermen, Jeff Wendler and John Allen. Both will be missed with Wendler being the top runner all year (11th place overall in HVL), and Allen being one of the hardest working runners. K-M will have a returning nucleus to build upon with lettermen, Dave Christen- son, Jon Ness, Jack Falkenhagen, and Randy Ranvek. In the 3 mi. race, 16:24 was the best time of the season made by Jeff Wendler. The next highest was 17:37, by Jon Ness. Wendler also passed 425 runners this season. Syl wester Steps Aside After Aine Years After the efforts of the hard and hot two weeks of preseason practice in August, it seemed the team was destine for a good season. But after a heart breaker with St. Charles, which the KoMets lost in overtime, the foot- ball team started to slide, losing the next five games. Coach Sylvester then called a team meeting, where he stepped down from the head coaching job. Dave Ginther, the B-squad coach at this time, was named head coach, which brought the resignation of backfield coach, Richard Swygman. The next two games, the KoMets lost to Zumbrota here and then at Cannon Falls. The season did end on a favorable note, as the KoMets defeated Kenyon in the last game of the season. Co-Captains for the 1974 season were Jeff Wenz and Jeff Stevenson, who was named to the Hiawatha Valley All- Conference Team for the second straight year. Quarterback Jay Kellar averaged 11.4 yds. in passing, while Jary Gardner received 35% of his passes. Jeff Stevenson rushed for a high of 819 yds. On defense Kevin Behrns had the most tackles with 178 and Al Hodge was second with 167. Al Hodge averaged 15 yds. on kicks returns, while Jeff Stevenson had the high of 9.5 yds. in punt returns. Gary Dorschner had the high of 498 yds. in kicking with an average of 33 yds. a kick. Jeff Stevenson was named to the Hiawathia Valley All-Con- ference Team for the second straight year.
