Vitalis who has dedicated his life to education. To the students he leaves these words: Throughout all of our lives we have been taught that there is no ending, only commencement. When we graduate from high school to face a new life, we call it commencement. The same is true when we leave col- lege. Why then, should it be any different when we finish a lifetime of work and face again an uncertain future? We like to look at this also as a commencement. We expect to cut our work load to a minimum. The time we spend playing golf, fishing, reading good books, and watching sports events will be at a maximum, WE HOPE. One tiling I have learned in my lifetime is to try not to worry too much about tomorrow. The big worries you think you are facing will quickly become vague memories in your yesterdays. Plan your tomorrows carefully so that your todays will be pleasant, effective, and useful; and thus your yesterdays will not be cluttered with re- grets. The nine years I have spent at K-M have been a very short, happy interlude in a long life of many experi- ences. To you, nine years is a long time, from the time you were little nine-year-olds in the fourth grade to your graduation from high school. I hope those years are filled with pleasant memories, and that I have left some small imprint in your development. I wish you success and happiness in whatever vocation you are planning for yourself. I will be thinking of you Sincerely, E. L. Vitalis 2 SENIORS Dan Currier Had we known life would be so short our shadows would have been Higher our impressions made more vivid our glances--more sincere. If man but knew his destiny --what part fate would play-- he'd wish to live again his life for just Another Day-- to try to do the things he ought, to take away some grief, to add a few more smiles instead- —to someone bring relief. As we think of Dan, our friend, we smile with moistened eyes, knowing somewhere behind his grin , he somehow realized that life's Too Short to frown away; the Sky's Too Blue to wish it gray. Now, In Memoriam, we pause to pray knowing Dan had lived His One More Day. . . 4 JOSEPH AARSVOLD: Chorus, 4j Class Play Crew 3; F. F. A.l, 2, 3; Wrestling 1, 2, 3, 4j Letterman's Club 2, 3, 4. They hold, however, many highlights and accomplishments for which we can be proud. In seventh grade we felt the rush and confusion of keeping pace with a system of clocks and bells. Now we were being educated by a separate teacher for each subject and came to know physical education as a real class, not just a break for enjoyment. The highlight of the year came when we were named first place winners in the homecoming float contest. September of 1963 gave us added responsibilities, for as freshmen we could participate in a variety of ac- tivities. This year we played an important part in homecoming by electing Jane Andrist as our first attendant. Our sophomore year brought a larger selection of class subjects. Choices had to be made between typing, biology, geometry, band, and chorus. This year Kay Threinen was our choice as homecoming attendant. Spring brought a sad note when we experienced the sorrow of losing fellow-classmate Greg Johnson. To us, this was a time not only to look back and ask why, but also to search our own minds for acceptance and under- standing. As juniors, we were presented with a host of activities. Our first concern was the magazine drive in which we broke the school record by selling over $3, 000 worth of magazines. This money was later used to finance our prom entitled, Oriental Fantasy and luckily was held on Friday the 13 of May. Another highlight was again winning first prize for our homecoming float. Lela Hippert was this year's atten- dant. Fall also brought the purchasing of class rings. With our selection, we became the first class to wear round rings. This was the year of the immortal Christopher Robin as our class presented its first dramatic production, Winnie the Pooh. Finally, we entered our senior year. Here, we took part in the first Blue and White Daze which served as a replacement for Homecoming. This meant a week full of activities with Jane Andrist reigning as queen. With the help of Prima Ballerina, Burt Fjerstad, the seniors also took first place honors in the skit contest. In November, we again felt the emptiness of losing a friend and classmate by the passing of Dan Currier. Through these dark days, we realized how short life really is and how unexplainable its tragedies always are. In May, the class took time away from education to present the magical play, Get Witch Quick. Activi- ties were then brought to a climax on May 29 when we became the thirteenth class to graduate from Kasson- Mantorville High School. To those behind us, we leave only a silhouette of what has been. Hoping that they will use our experiences to better the goals that they set for themselves. 19 BEST ALL-AROUND F. Zwemke andj. The responsibility of decorating the goal posts was designated as their contribution to carrying out the Blue and White Daze fes- tivities. It was their first year of school in the high school, and their first year of moving from room to room for each class. There was a Blue and White Day's party, a Valentine's party, and a party after Easter which they could attend. At their first class meeting they elected class officers. They were: president, Joan- ie Olive; vice president, Bob O'Brien; secret ary-treasurer, Tod Rossi; and student coun- cil representative, Sue Carney. To climax their year, a class picnic was held with the eighth graders. Not pictured are S. Hegna and D. Stofferahn L. Alberts L. Andrist Bk Andruzzi R. Baker C. Benedix G. Bonnes S. Bo yum V. A DOLL’S HOUSE Ibsen The K-M Junior Class presented Ibsen's A DOLL'S HOUSE on the evening of November 4 at 7:45. To the Helmers', a family of the 19th century, the New Year seems bright for them as Torvald has just been appointed bank manager. Nora, Torvald's wife, is subjected to her husband's wishes with complete devotion and without question. In the final scene of the play, Nora came to see society and truth as it really exists. No more games—no more living in A DOLL'S HOUSE. Miss Carlson said the emotion bothered the cast mainly because they hadn't lived that type of life. TORVALD HELMER NORA.......... DR. RANK . . . . GENESIS was the oral reading based on the first book of the Bible. The group job was to make the story of the creation come to life with voices. No props or actions were used. Different tones and speeds dis- tinguished the characters. At times they portrayed God, evil devils, Eve, Cain, and Abel. Coaching was Miss Carlson. BACK ROW: M. Parkin, B. Mack, M. Hanson, E. The class of '67 presented Get Witch Quick on Friday and Saturday evening, May 5 and 6. Throughout the play, the audience witnessed strange happenings such as a flying book, falling chairs, and a sudden burst of flame from the witch's coven. Ma Hecate, played by Nancy Skaran, had everyone in stitches with her old fash- ioned ideas on witchcraft. To celebrate the great success of the play, the cast, along with director Judy Carlson and her family, dined in costume at the Hubbel House after Saturday night's performance.
