Caught In The Act! 34 A gO-6o 6 Raising enough money for a Foreign Ex- change Student kept the Student Council quite busy this year. Their goal was not attained, but the Council will try harder next year. The Council revised Homecoming for next year, having an all-school dance and the coronation of the queen in the fall. This would be held during a special Komet week, the name of which will be decided next year. An alumni banquet and dance will be held during Christmas vacation. Officers of the Council consisted of President, Larry Olson; Vice-President, Chuck Harris; and Secretary-Treasurer, Janet Wilke. Chuck Harris and Marty Grov- dahl were sent to the Minnesota Associa- tion of the Student Councils in Rochester. The purpose of the Student Council is to represent the student body in govern - ing the students. President Larry Olson THE VOICE THE OF STUDENT S Row Is M. Andrist, D. Fjerstad, W. Zelinske, R. THE K-M BAND MOVES ONWARD 42 Included in the band's busy schedule this year were concerts, parades, and sports events. The band also participated in a Band Festival at Mankato State College. The chorus and a community choir added their talents to the Christ- mas Concert. In a setting of Oriental Fantasy the first and second bands performed with special selections by the stage band, piano duet, clarinet choir, and major- ettes. Recognition was given to K-M by the large number of participants in contests. Two clarinet solos, a bell solo, and clarinet choir re- ceived A ratings at the district and went on to capture high ratings at the regional contest. All Star Members: Row 1: K. O'Brien, R. O'Brien. The chorus, under the direction of Gordon Gre- gersen, presented three concerts to the K-M community. This year a new concert was add- ed, the Mid-Winter Concert. The chorus of '66' had the largest number of students participating in the vocal class with a total of almost 70 students. When the year '67' comes, it will bring along with it a new vocal director. Mrs. Dale Timm and Mr. Gor- don Gregerson combined their talents to add to the mu- sical atmosphere of the play. The Seniors displayed a variety of talent in their acting, singing, and dancing. The back drop, depicting a New England harvest scene, added realism. Under the capable direction of Miss Judy Carlson, the Seniors presented one of the best liked plays given at K-M. They had a record breaking crowd at the two performances. Here he further applies the know- ledge that he must lean to- ward his goals, work with others as a team, be will- ing to improve, and accept his responsibility. Yet, as In all of life, he must never quit facing reality. Competition helps him pre- pare for life and develop fair play toward and for all. The hands he uses not only win the game, but they mold him for further life. P. Flom, M. Fountain, K. Threinen, S, Elias, K. Swenson VARSITY CHEERLEADERS A. Ulrich, L. Johnson, D. Wyttenbach, J. Wilke, K. Jorgensen Captain Linda Johnson Something new was started this year as KM added a squad of wrestling cheerleaders. The combined wrestling and basketball squads made nine cheerleaders for the football games. The girls attended a cheerleading clinic in Pine Island where they were given many helpful hints. They each hQsted their district tournaments and attended the state tour- neys. Each of the squads had its own captain. Dianne Wyttenbach became captain of her squad when Linda Johnson moved. 71 FOOTBALL G. Holtz QB SENIOR GRID L Olson FB S. Suhr T D. Haugo HB D. Dahle E J. Brossard G KM's grid was led by six Seniors this year. These boys helped lead the KoMets to a 7-2 record through the season. The KoMets traveled to Blooming Prairie to meet the Blossoms in the first game of the season. Blooming Prairie has been a tough competitor in the field of football. They downed the KoMets 18 to 6. Another non-conference ballgame brought the KoMets to their number ONE foe, Dodge Center. The weather was fine but Dodge Center again beat the KoMets this time 7 to 0. Not all the season was as bad as its beginning. The next ballgame was held at KM where the KoMets met their first conference foes Zumbrota. Zumbrota had many experienced ball players, returning for another season of football. This did not stop the KoMets who took their first conference win 12 to 6. Greg Holtz did much for the KoMets this year as he advanced the ball 245 yards running in 98 carries for 2.4 yards per carry. Greg also gained 558 yards in passing including 7 TDs. Larry Olson, fullback, gained 104 yards in 49 tries. He averaged 2.1 yards per carry. Row 1. G. Zelinski, R. Fait, D. Haugo, J. Smalley, D. Burgess, R. Boyum. Row 2. E. Lee, T. Brekke, C. Harris, L. Dan caught five touch down passes and in all, advanced the ball 250 yards in 15 catches averaging 16 yards per carry. Joe Brossard was taken from the sport when he broke his leg in practice. Joe played the positions of guard and tackle and did an outstanding job on defense for the KoMets. Steve Suhr tried football for the first time this season. Steve played the tackle spot. We have by-passed harvestable fields of truth in our attempts to glean only visible, gaudy fruit. We have tried to jump fences where preceding man placed gates and pathways to lead us o'er the best way. We have stood under stormy blackened skies, idly waiting for the sun to reappear. We have heard the cry of wise old life, and looked, but we have not listened nor have we seen. We have spoken and uttered stammerings, but we have not orated ideas. We have recognized truth, but we have not thought. THESE GLORIES LIE AHEAD. We shall Take the world as we find it, but leave it better. I AM ONLY ONE. I CANNOT DO EVERYTHING.
