This year the Student Council has been very progressive and always willing to help out with the problems facing Manti High School. At Christmas time the Student Council started a sub-for-Santa project, where the Studentbody brought old toys which were repaired and were given to needy children for Christmas. Through the determined efforts of the Student Council, many problems have been solved. The Student Council has worked with a very good attitude, with eagerness to search out solutions and new programs for M.H.S. As the governing body of M.H.S. this year. Student Council has been very successful. 9 HOMECOMING September 30 October 4. 1974. marked a week of fun. excitement, and a great Homecoming for all Manti Templars. Monday, the week got off to a great start, with the Homecoming Queen contest. Tuesday brought splendor and thrills as the annual letter lighting took place up Manti Canyon. After lots of time and work, the Juniors were chosen as the victors '. Rough and Tough . was the name of the game as the Senior girls pounced the Junior girls with a finishing score of 33-6, in the annual Powder Puff game Wed. night on the Snow College Football Field. Finally. Friday brought the annual parade down main street in Manti, with nearly all clubs making an entry. Winning the competition was the F.H.A.. and the Freshmen. The afternoon was possibly one of the most exciting events of the week, when the Manti Templars met the Juab Wasps on the Snow College Football Field. The Templars came out the victors , with a score of 22-6. With that evening the week's activities ended the Homecoming Dance sponsored by the Senior class. And so. another Homecoming had come and gone . . . We bought oranges for the basketball team and have had many activities in- volving the studentbody. For exam- ple, Pin-'em day for the wrestlers and the Poster Painting Contest of the classes. We have enjoyed working with classmates and the coaches and we thank everyone who have supported us throughout the past year. 18 I. V. CHEERLEADERS As Junior Varsity Cheer- leaders, we have really enjoyed our positions this past year. We have not only cheered for our GREAT Junior Varsity teams, but also have supported the Varsity teams, and the wrestling team. We have had the opportunity to travel with the teams and help promote the school spirit. 19 SENIORS high SCHOOL THE WAY WE WERE OFFICERS: Steve Allred. Vice President: leanne Anderson. The class started early in the summer raising money by sponsoring a quilt raffle, a dance and several bake sales at the various football and basketball games throughout the year. All proceeds from the fund raising projects went toward the traditional lunior Prom. Amongst the confusion of Homecoming, we seized the Superior' rating at Letter- lighting. But the main ac- complishment of the Home- coming Week was the Queen Contest, when two of the three royalty members were repre- sentatives of the Junior Class of 1976. We are very proud to say that we have conquered all challenges confronting us throughout this year, and we are anxiously awaiting those challenges in the future. Our class has added a little bit of every- thing to this year's school activities. To start the year rolling, we sponsored the first dance. Our Sophomore Class was well represented in the Homecoming Queen contest, as well as in many other activities through- out the 1974-1975 school year. So far our class has worked well together and we hope to continue doing so in the future years. Although green, we feel our ac- complishments have been many. Thanks to the hard work of our boys, we were able to pull second place in the letterlighting contest. Through the effort of many creative hands, the Fresh- men float took first place in class competition in the Homecoming parade. We are proud to say that the Home- coming royalty included an attendant from our class. Our first 'big time' as- sembly was a success (depending on the point of view). The Christmas dance we sponsored was a fun- filled evening with the holiday spirit in the air. Considering the challen- ges of the new classes, teachers, activities, added responsibilities, and oc- casional headaches, we feel we have come out on top. Uarl McBride. President: Brad Beazer. During the year. Radio Club members participated in many fun activities which included: broadcasting a radio program five days a week, taking care of lighting and sound for high school assemblies. Radio Club members are required to travel with the club to Salt Lake City to take the Third Class Radio Telephone License examination. The members are re- quired to have a limited knowledge of electronics. Also a highlight for the Radio Club was that new equipment was installed for K.MHS to be broadcast not only on AM radio dials but also on FM. OFFICERS Back row left lo right: Ron Phillips. To add variety to our performances, we used many props, such as guns, baseball bats, canes, baby doll aprons, etc. Our team prepared well for this year. Early last summer 12 of the members of the drill team had the opportunity to attend a drill team camp at Utah State University. Throughout the year, we presented several assemblies hoping to entertain the stu- dentbody as well as create interest in our organ ization. As one of our projects this year, each girl adopted an elderly person of the area as a grand- parent. We made many things for them. One week of the school year was set apart as Girls Week. During this week the FHA sponsored several craft and novelty shows. Guest speakers and a food demonstration were among the activities espe daily highlighting the week. During the month of February the FFA boys gave a sleigh-riding party and invited the FHA girls. In the spring we held a very successful little-sister party. But to end the year with a bang. FHA members went to Salt Lake City for the FHA State Convention. The last activity of the year, was the closing social, when we elected next year's officers. First row: Karen Wheeler Kerri Howell. They have gathered many laughs, sorrows, and all the hard work that has made the year such a great year for Manti High School. This year the staff has experienced different problems and newr and exciting challenges. Many interesting effects have been put in the yearbook to make it more interesting. Many hard hours have been spent in putting the book out this year, but all the efforts have been paid off well. Left to righl: Terri lean Daniels Co-Editor; Karen Wheeler Editor: Colleen Cox. SKI CLUB The 1974-1975 Ski Club started out a little slow but really got there and came out ahead. This year, at Manti High, the Ski Club has had the largest membership ever. It took a while for the snow to fall but as soon as it did the club ventured to Brighton and then to Park City West. The region ski day was a big success and schools from all over the region attended. Manti seemed to have the best skiers and the most skiers. As part of a fund raising activity during the 1974-1975 school year, the boys sold hot dogs, pop. and other food items during letter-lighting. Two very successful dances were sponsored by the Lettermen. Since the boys need to prove themselves worthy of being members of the Lettermen s Club, it is hoped that in the coming year the club will be as outstanding as the 1974-1975 club. We the Templar Trumpet staff have made an attempt to serve the school by bringing items of interest and entertainment to our readers, and to reflect the accomplishments of Manti High School through the printed page. We believe it is vital to make a record of important events related to school activities. It is our hope that we. in our way. have helped boost school spirit. We like also, to believe we have increased appreciation for school experiences and friendships established at MHS. It is very easy to let a school paper become a gossip sheet or a joke column, but we have tried to uphold standards of good journalistic practice and to maintain the standards of the school. We have tried to be accurate, honest, and unbiased in our reporting. We are mindful, however, of the editor's lament: When I do something right, no one remembers: when I do something wrong, no one forgets. We have experienced personal growth as members of the staff and feel that this has been a valuable experience. We have been exposed to some of the techniques and processes of the publication game, and have seen possibilities for vocational and professional application in our future. We hope that the paper Templar Trumpet, and the literary magazine Write have brought pleasure, communication, and a sense of accomplish- ment to the Templars at Manti High School. 74 MIXED CHORUS The Mixed Chorus was at its best this year, they performed to several concerts during the year along with the Pop Chorus. The club began the year by con- structing the letter-lighting bonfire during Homecoming Week. During the month of February installations of new honor students were held. This club seldom has time to have activities for themselves due to the fact that they are busy helping others at Manti High School. One of the goals of the Honor Society is to do something to help better the community through service, leadership, character and scholar- ship. It is indeed an honor for Manti High School to have such fine represent- atives in the National Honor Society. OFFICERS: Jon Howell. President. Cindy Denton. Vice President: LaRee Squire. Secretary. For the first time in the history of wrest- ling at Manti High School, a full team was on the mat for most of the season. While the dual match record was not impressive, seven wrestlers qualified for the state tournament, with Blake Daniels placing fourth. Leading the team were Kerry Byrum with a 15-4 record and Charlie Nielson with a 15-5 record. Manti wrestled its most ambitious schedule competing in six tournaments including Region and State.
