Conquest Cod did not make me in a single hour— He fashioned me for laughter, love, and tears, As a tree that slowly comes to flower. He gave time, the blessed gift of years. God did not make me with a single breath — He gave me will to strive, to hope, to conquer. And days for growth So that the hour of death Might not total well, blow the sun to dust, But have tolerance and kindness for all men. And if life’s storm Should bow my head with pain, Let not my soul be as a stunted tree, Let me not falter But reach toward the stars, And let me grow and conquer As God has planned for me. CHEERLEADERS These were the Cheerleaders and Spiritleaders for Manti High School for the year 1972-73. With two Seniors, two Juniors, and five Sophomores, the Cheer- leaders worked very hard to promote spirit! Using various methods for raising school spirit, this year's cheerleaders painted signs, sponsored class compe- tition, selected a spirited boy and spirited girl at the end of the year, and set model examples of enthusiasm! The cheerleaders would like to thank all those who supported them this year. You have helped a lot to make it a great success! Homecoming Week was filled with excitement, laughter, and enthusiasm. The festive week was started off with a Pow- der Puff football game between the Senior and Junior girls Monday night. After an exciting game, the superior Seniors came out victorious with a score of 13-6. The Letterlighting was held in Manti canyon Thursday night. Following a program, the winners of the lighting were announced with Juniors taking first place; Seniors, second place; and Sopho- mores, third place. On Friday, the final day of Home- coming, the parade was presented with floats from each class and various clubs and organizations competing for a cash prize. The Junior Class Float was award- ed first place with a $15 prize. That afternoon. Manti bowed to the Juab Wasps in a well-fought football game. A dance was held that night with Stilwater” furnishing the music. The Sophomore class won the spirit chain contest for making the most links. All in all. Homecoming was a very eventful week with every day full of ac- tivities. Spirit was at its best making this year’s Homecoming the most successful one yet. 14 HOME - COMING ROYALTY Bubbling over with enthu- siasm, four participants from each class competed for Homecoming Queen. The lovely girls each modeled their gowns and performed a talent. Later they were interviewed by the judges, and the studentbody voted for the girls of their choice. After a difficult decision, three girls were selected: Second Attendant, Bobbie Sue Gray; First Attendant, Andrea Graham; Queen, Darlynn Monson. Together they reigned throughout the Homecoming Week. 16 CLASSES SENIORS ’73 SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS: Steve Jensen, Vice President; Marta DeLeeuw, President; Lynda Willardson, Secretary. We learned individuality and how to be ourselves; we learned unity and how to work with others. Breathless with anticipation, we began our Sophomore year. By winning the letterlighting we showed our potential abilities. We were the first Sophomore class to be able to buy school rings. Throughout the year, we expressed our enthusiasm and school spirit in all our activities. As Juniors, we were better acquainted with the ways of MHS. Full of enthusiasm, we won the spirit stick for the class with the most school spirit. We made a spirit chain” of three hundred red and white links. The Junior Prom turned out to be very successful. It was trying, yet enjoyable and rewarding for everyone. Knowing that this Senior year was our last at MHS, we were determined to make it the best. We won the Powder Puff football game, and the Homecoming Royalty was chosen from our class. More than ever before, we Seniors showed our enthusiasm and school spirit. The Senior class, having reached the crossroads of life, looks back and knows that we will only be united again through the memories of our beloved Manti High. An emptiness will be felt in the hearts of each member of the Senior class as we leave MHS. But, our Senior year isn’t the end —only the beginning of the rest of our lives. All Seniors will carry with them the memory of friendships and experiences in the years when we were united together as the Class of ’73”. We’re on our own now —on to bigger and better things. 23 JUNIORS ’73 The Junior class has been a very special class at Manti High School. They have developed a great love and respect for MHS that has helped them accomplish many things. They started out a great year by winning the annual Letterlighting contest and Homecoming float competition. The class assembly was a success and through much planning and hard work the Junior Prom turned out to be everything they expected it to be. The Junior class has made a great contribution to the talent and spirit at MHS this year. They participated in athletics, drill team, band, chorus, cheering at ball games, and in just making MHS a better place in which to go to school. This year the Juniors have studied and prepared for their last big step in high school —that of becoming Seniors. They will continue working together, achieving, and growing. Participating and competing in all school activities, the sopho- mores have shown enthusiasm in everything they have done. Leading the other classes by more than six hundred links, the sophomores took first place in the spirit chain during Homecoming week. They designed a float, Think Big”, which will never be forgotten. The four girls representing the sopho- mores in the Queen Contest presented some very good talent. Many sophomore athletes have shown great potential for future events, contributing much to this year’s sports. The Sophomore Swing and Assembly were both successful and well planned. Much hard work went into these events, making them extra-special to everyone involved in them. The sophomores have contributed much to the life of Manti High School and now look ahead to the challenge of their future. This year’s sophomores are not only big in number, they are big in ideas. FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA Contributing much to the spirit and enthusiasm at Manti High School this year, was the FHA Club. The many ac- tivities and exciting projects made it fun just to be a member. Every month brought something fun to do. Installations started the year off just right. Mothers were invited and the dinner was delicious. Mrs. Glen Lee was our guest speaker. Colour My World” was the theme for the Autumn Ball, and setting the mood were the colors orange and gold. The floor show was unusual and very interesting. Our service project this year was a quilt, which was donated to the Boys' Club. The Christmas party included lots of pizza, fun, and a big batch of homemade goodies for the faculty members. FHA State Convention was one of the highlights of the whole year. We stayed in a motel for two days, and all the meetings were held in the Salt Palace. Later on in the year, we had a very successful Daddy Daughter Date”. The Assembly was quite an experience for all those involved. This has certainly been one of the most eventful years FHA has had. The members really became involved and showed that they wanted to be part of the action. MODEL This year in Model U.N. we had the opportunity to represent the country of Belgium. We had many meet- ings in which we studied the proceedings and charter of the Model United Nations. Immediately after receiv- ing our committee assign- ments we went to work mak- ing up resolutions which con- sisted of decisions and suggestions on world prob- lems. These resolutions were sent in to be accepted for discussion. In the spring we traveled to Salt Lake and participated in the annual M.U.N. con- vention. Here we presented and defended our resolu- tions before representatives of other schools. We strongly feel that Model United Nations is a worth- while experience. JoDee Howell 49 F.F.A. The FFA is a national organization for students studying vocational agriculture. The FFA has enjoyed two exciting and interesting activities this year—the State Judging Con- test and Snow College Field Day, where they took first place in livestock and range judging. Two students, Chris Denton and Larry Pritchard, were sent to represent our chapter at the National Convention. Representatives were also sent to State Convention. Trying something different this year, the FFA replaced the traditional banquet with an assembly, during which the honorary members were announced. Jed was reliable, teachable, and fun- loving. As a football player, he mastered several positions, as well as being an outstanding kicker. He was interested in livestock, and participated in various shows in Utah. Jed was well-liked by his classmates and possessed a good sense of humor. He enjoyed hunting and collecting arrow- heads and added a spark of enjoyment wherever he went. We won t be seeing Jed for awhile, nor hear him say, V oh,” — until we meet again. “Of Places Far” To me Istanbul Was only a name Until a picture You took Of the Blue Mosque Came.
