CLARION 1972 MANTI HIGH SCHOOL Julie Goodwin..............Editor Mardene Hansen..........Co-Editor Charlotte Lowry.........Co-Editor Lithographed by COMMUNITY PRESS Provo. Utah 1 REFLECTIO ‘ F . fm Today becomes tomorrow and all the tomorrows rush to yesterdays. Only yesterday we were sophomores, juniors, or seniors on the academic front of Manti High. With a challenge offering a balance between the past and future. fF' jgjFj Manti High encompassing lives of yesterday, lives of today, lives of tomorrow. Tomorrow was the day to relax-to let yourself stop thinking, if only for a minute. But tomorrow never seemed to come. So, yrff shifted tomorrow to today to catch some social life; A quiet walk in the fallen leaves; -moments alone. Tomorrow had become yesterday and you and the school had found the best in each other. The indescribable, powerful and intangible force-You take some of it with you when you leave, you leave part of yourself when you go. Day of education, when you feel a change to perhaps a religion, a certain love, to a life lived with a goal and a purpose. Winston T. C Dewey Lund 6 PRINCIPAL Mr. Thomas A Henretty served Manti High School well as Principal. He worked diligently to solve the problems that have arisen during the school year. He was a friend and advisor to many, carrying out his responsibilities with a quiet, efficient calmness. With the students interests always in mind, Mr Henretty helped MHS toward her goal of unity, spirit, and quality. The achievements of the stu- dents were reflected in the pride Mr. Henretty exemplified for our school. MHS owes Mr. Henretty a vote of thanks for his help and unending | service this past year. When you're out of Schlitz. you're out of beer' 18 SENIOR REFLECTIONS The Class of 72 has experienced many wonderful and memorable moments at Manti High, during the past three years We have witnessed many changes and have helped in the forming of new traditions We were the first class to experience the con- fusion of modular scheduling and the excitement of football season From the first moment that we arrived at MHS as Sophomores, we have been growing and maturing in both knowledge and experience. Our experiences as silly-silly sophomores' were new, exciting and very frighten- ing We learned many things during this year and had a lot of fun doing it. We sponsored dances, learned how to light a letter, and even presented an assembly. We also learn- ed not to crowd in the lunch line, use the front door, or most serious of all insult a Senior. After suffering through many trials and tribulations, we finally matured to the point where we could smile at the good natured kidding of the upperclassmen —thus earning the right to become juniors. We entered into our Junior year with the determination and maturity to make it the best year ever By working together we succeeded in doing our best in everything in which we participated. During Homecoming Week our efforts were rewarded when the Homecoming Queen was chosen from our class Also, our Powder Puff football team upset tradition by defeating the Seniors 6-0. When choosing class rings we had our own special design made Because of its excellence it was decided that this design would be the traditional school ring from then on. The highlight of the year was the Junior Prom. Elegantly draped in blue, green and yellow, the armory was transformed into a romantic park scene, which set the mood for the theme. Love Story Prom Master and Mistress. Mike Jensen and Kathy Thurs- by. led the class in the promenade. The success of the night reflected the hard work and careful planning that the entire class put into it Our Senior year has been, in a sense, our last big step up, before our first big step forward. Knowing that this is our final year of High School, has made us work and par- ticipate in all activities with more energy and purpose than ever before. Starting out the year by winning the annual Letter Lighting, we proceeded to achieve by taking first place with our float in the Homecoming Parade. Also our Powder Puff football team victored for the second consecutive year. And now as our last year draws to a close, we realize with mixed emotions that graduation will mark an important milestone in our lives. Each student must then cross his own bridge as it extends into the pathway of the future. Though the Class of '72 will split and go their separate ways we will always be united by the memories of the friend- ships and experiences that we have had at Mann High 19 (ouiz-Ocu UNIOR CLASS OFFICERS-Top, left to right: President, Stephen Cox; Secretary, Connie Williams; Vice President, Janice Barton; Repre- sentative, Rebecca Anderson. 20 Clive Young Carma Aider Stanley Braithwaite Jerrylyn Bradley Cherry Aston I Kathy Baxter Joe Bailey Rebecca Anderson Jeff Bailey Joyce Anderson Linda Calhoun Peggy Barnard Allan Colby Luetta Christensen Dave Carlisle Stephen Cox Diane Dennis John Daniels Debbie Green Sandra Daniels Mary Green Robert Dyreng Andrea Graham Terrel Edwards Marta DeLeeuw Janice Barton Chris Denton Cynthia Howell Mont Francisco Jams Green 21 co a O Paul Bown Pat Gonzales Mike Francks Jill Howell Reed Hatch Mary Ellen Hedelius Kevin Jacobsen Ramona Jorgensen jed Jensen Karen Keller Steven Jensen Steven Keller Karin Larsen Fay Miller Paul Hardy Kathleen Findlay Lloyd Lyons Darlynn Monson Ronald Keisel Barbara Madsen Paul Mangelson Bonny Nielson Lance Mickelson Debra Nielson Steven Olsen Jane Nielsen Dorine Scovill Mary Nielson Dennis Munk Virginia McIntosh 22 Allen Simons Margie Olsen Cory Maylett Linda Nielson Jay Olsen Lora Sondrup Kesty Tom Lanny Olsen Mitzi Olsen Alfred Peterson Melinda Russell Denny Parry Kathie Peterson Lynda Willardson LuAnn Petersen Larry Pritchard Sandra Sorensen Jeff Olsen Rosemary Squire Robert Tuttle Patsy Thomson Hal Stott Leslie Sorensen Allen Woolsey Marilyn Thomson Lynn Willardson Connie Williams Danny Terry Eloise Voohees George Smith Vomta Woolsey Pictures Unavailable Jack Bailey. During F.F.A. week, they sponsored a banquet for the members and their parents. Another highlight of the week was the choosing of the F.F.A. Sweetheart. Conventions and contests also kept the members busy. Mark Plummer and Mike Bailey attended the National F.F.A. Convention in Kansas City. This year's officers and the newly elected officers for next year, attended the State Convention in Salt Lake City. The boys of each class were up on the hill at dawn to build their letters. As the day went on, they were rewarded with a well-prepared lunch by the girls from each class. The reward for the hard work came when the letters were lighted, and each class tried to prove their letter was the best by the class cheers showing their school spirit. After the lighting of the letters, a lunch was served by the Lettermen, followed by a talent program, then the whole studentbody joined in sing- ing songs. The following Friday night the first dance of the year was held and the announcement was made that the mighty Seniors had captured frist place in this year's Letterlighting.
