STUDENT GOVERNMENT.. Studentbody Officers Jann Jacobson. Steve Kjar. Dave Wintch. Kris Frischknecht A handsome senior, Steve Kjar. served as Stu- dentbody President. Under his capable leadership and organization, the students had a great deal of school spirit. Steve was always there —helping— with the Student Lounge, dances, assemblies, or where- ever he was needed by the studentbody Vice-President was Jann Jacobson. Jann, fun- loving, and full of vitality, helped the students to feel at home She proved to be a good officer with loads of talent, ability, and ideas. Jann was part of the school's backbone; she strengthened it with unity and spirit. Kris Frischknecht was our Studentbody Secre- tary. She was always busy taking down minutes, typing letters, and being useful. Kris bubbled over with ex- citement and ideas. Planning our activities for this year was talented Dave Wintch. Dave helped to plan the Region Seven dance, along with the other activities that we had Whenever he was asked to do anything, it was done well. 8 Student Council Front row. left to right: Ken Peterson. Kathy. Sherry, and Brad leading the senior class, where else could they go but up? Some of the things that helped them to go up were taking first place with their float in the Homecoming Parade, presenting a great assembly, and an out- standing dance The seniors showed great school spirit by always wanting to be on top They tried their hardest to out yell the lower classmen at all the activities, including ball games and pep rallies As seniors, they experienced new changes. Among these changes were the modular sched- uling. the student lounge, and being the upper classmen. Although they eagerly awaited their graduation, they realized that they must advance one more step in life One by one, the class of 71. will go their separate ways, but they will always remember the school spirit, unity, and friendships they had at Manti High Junior Officers The juniors entered the year with much ma- turity and great determination to make it their best year ever They did their best in everything they participated in. For Homecoming Week they tried their hardest to do better than either of the other classes. They were rewarded by having the Home- coming Queen chosen from their class When choosing class rings they decided to make their own special design which had never been done before. Their junior assembly was of high quality. The highlight for the class of 72 was the Junior Prom. The success of that night reflected the hard work the entire class put into it, whether it was decorating, planning, advertising, or participating With their officers taking the lead, the junior class did their best to make this year a great one As the class advances from jolly, jolly juniors into mighty seniors.” we expect them to do even better. 10 Kenny Peterson. Freddie Ann Francks. Mark Plummer Bob Tuttle Sophomore Officers Allen Simons. Linda Nielson. Connie Williams. Marta DeLeeuw The sophomores started the year out great by winning the annual Letter Lighting. With their bold S taking the lead, they proved how deter- mined they were to do well This determination lasted throughout the year as the class of 73 tried their hardest to show the upper-classmen that they were worthy of high school. Being silly, silly sophomores did not dampen their school spirit, instead it helped to boost it. They started a new tradition, but broke an old one. by changing the style of school rings. They were also the first sophomore class of MHS to get school rings. It was decided to buy the rings as sophomores so they could wear them through their three years of high school The sophomore class of 73 has proven to all how great their class really is They didn't give up when things went wrong, instead they strived harder to achieve their goals Yearbook Editors Paper Editor Helen Olsen. STUDENT ACTIVITIES Letterlighting The annual letterlighting was held in Manti Canyon. It was a huge success. The studentbody all came out to this activity, each eager for his class letter to be the best. The boys of each class were up on the hill early on that Satur- day to build their letter. As the day went on. they were rewarded with a well-prepared lunch by the girls in each class. There was a great display of spirit as the letters were lit. Each class tried to prove their letter was the best by showing their school spirit. After the lighting of the letters, a lunch was served by the Lettermen. A program, organized by Studentbody Vice- President, Jann Jacobson, proved to be full of fun and talent. The studentbody enjoyed a dance afterward. The surprising announcement of the evening was thafc the Sophomores won the lettertighting. This dance was suc- cessful as it was the first one of the year. S. This book of memories — The Clarion — merely captures a photo glance of you student-citizens before you take your life stations. It is our constant prayer that the individual experience gained at Manti High has been sufficient in preparing you citizens for the inevitable life steps that must be mastered Graduation is just one more incident in the course of planned development While it has the potential of opening up many avenues, this real- ization is almost fully yours to predict. Behind every great achievement is an out- standing person who was not afraid to break the chains of tradition. Progress and a more abundant life have been attributed to those individuals who were willing to test the unique If you should by chance, happen to reflect back upon this page, consider one plea: Don't be afraid to keep one step above the mass of mankind.
