Spanish Fork, Utah OUR PRINCIPAL SPEAKS Self Realization — understand your limita- tions and your possibilities, develop your poten- tialities; experience the growth of which your nature is capable; aspire to the ideal of the ancient Greeks, Know Thyself — perhaps these are some of the ideas inherent in the noble motto which is ours at AAHS. The bronze words on the oak board — we have glanced at them often enough as we have passed in the hall — and perhaps those glances have sometimes carried away no thought, and perhaps sometimes they have caused each of us to reflect deeply. Certainly they have in some way, great or small, touched the lives of each of us and so they can remain for us a glowing symbol of our years at Manti High School — years of Self-Realization. Bruce Jennings THE VOICE OF OUR SUPERINTENDENT The true measure of one's success in life should not be what he does as much as what he should have done considering his talents and abilities. Only when one develops his talents and abilities to the optimum for the betterment of society can he be really successful. Superintendent Maurice -2- icers Ronald Thompson President LaRee Anderson Vice-President Audrey Hansen Secretary Tom Anderson Activity Manager THE CALL OF OUR SCHOOL The call of our High School is ever so grand; Faithful and loyal to it always we'll stand. Self Realization, our motto 'tis true. Our dear AAanti High School we'll all stand by you. It's a dynamic ecstatic life! However all sunshine makes a desert and in each life some rain must fall. Losing a basketball game is but a slight show- er of rain. We must pre- pare ourselves for the greater trials of life. Always remembering be- hind the clouds the sun is still shining. DeLora Marble Better keep yourself clean and bright; you are the window through which you must see the world. Albert Antrei No one will doubt that the lawgiver should pay chief attention to the ed- ucation of the young; for the neglect of educa- tion ruins the constitu- tion of the country. We're from Manti High and no one could be prouder echoed through the can- yon as they found their way up to Brox's. However, M. H. S. divided into four parts that night, and each was pulling for his own class as the letters burst into flame. The Freshman class came through with top honors for their letter, and the Juniors took first with their program. At the crack of dawn on October 2, the age old custom of a horseback ride again transpired. In the midst of the colorful array of autumn leaves a memorable ex- perience was enjoyed by both students and teachers. They came by truck, jeep, jalopy, and horseback to the site of Milkcreek camp grounds where hamburgers and punch were served and games were played. -10- As the new school year began, classmates prepared to take another step toward Self Realization. Beneath gay hello's of renewing old acquaintances, deep consideration was taking place as to what classes would help them in life, on this day of registration. To officially proclaim the member- ship of the Freshmen into the high school, gleeful suffering of ini- tiations was imposed on the green- ies by their masters the Sopho- mores. To the glow of candlelight, the atmosphere of Hernando's Hide-a- way was portrayed by the Freshie Hop. Peals of laughter rang out from the auditorium as Miss Marble and Mr. Antrei sang and did a hilarious pantomime to Make Love to Me in the Faculty Assembly. Mr. Steinkert de- lighted the group as he played on the piano, novel versions of Jingle Bells. Mantinee dances were enjoyed at various times during the school year. -11- Christmas festivities started off at AAHS by the student body officers placing a beautiful Christ- mas tree in the hall. The Christmas spirit was carried on by the AAanti High School chorus presenting its concert at the Center Ward Dec- ember 19th. The day school let out for the holidays who should appear in our assembly but jolly old Saint Nick himself with presents in his bag, rumpled hair for the boys, and kisses for the girls. The preferred men, Douglas Bjerregaard, John Allen Stevens, and Glen Brown, were chosen by the Pep Club and honored at the Pep Club Formal. The theme was In An Old Fashioned Garden , complete with a flowered lattice and wishing well. In bright red princess style dresses with full boxpleated skirts highlighted with white ribbons and gloves, the Pep Club proudly represented our school by marching at the halves of our basketball games. They seemed to shake the rafters of the gym with their T-E-M-P-L-A-R-S, TEMP--LARS. Leading the Studentbody in cheers for the Sophomore team were three viva- cious, energetic lassies — Shannon Whit- lock, Janice Ottosen, and Bernell Ander- son. Coach Goodwin contributed much to the team, but his generosity didn't stop there; he also contributed a cheer- leader, his daughter, Kay Goodwin. This added much variety and interest to this cheering squad. The talent of M. H. S. was shown in the four class assemblies during the school year. Creative talent in art, speech, song, and dance was demonstrated behind the scenes as well as that presented to the student body. Outstanding in the Senior Assembly was the scenery which showed their theme Ultra Red a story composed chiefly of dancing and took place in Hell. Ye Ole Toy Shoppe, the theme of the Sophomore Assembly, was a light entertainment, a portrayal of dolls coming to life at the stroke of midnight and their flippant gaiety as they performed in song and dance. Loyalty to our school and its motto Self Realization, was shown in the Freshman Assembly. Their poetry in speech was exceptional. Subway Personalities, a hilarious comedy was presented to the student- body by the Juniors April 11. Today is the day to make ourselves better, to make our dreams become a reality, make ourselves today what we want to be tomorrow, for today is the only time one has. Through our INVESTIGATION in various classes, in books, and outside of school activities, we have learned that we must search, consider, criticize, discuss, explore, inspect, observe, and study; we have developed better work habits, some initiative, and many desirable attitudes, such as: courtesy, depend- ability, punctuality, preparedness and many others. All of these traits go for developing a better personality. As we near completion of our FRESHMAN year at Manti High School, we realize that our past is history and the future never comes; that if we are going to make the most of this life we must take advantage of every opportunity and do our best to reach our desired goal Self Realization . -35- Ellafay Swallow She likes Sophomore boys I'll say They prefer a redhead any day. During the past year we have tried to Build for Your Fu- ture a collection of memories that will be invaluable to you in years hence. It's been fun . . . through all the trials and tribulations — such as trying so hard to get away from such trite statements as 'trials and tribulations . . . trying to meet the deadline, attempting to create some inspiration and original, novel ideas for this book . . . but seeing the final products tells us it was worth it. One of the biggest pleasures we received from producing this yearbook was realizing a goal, that of putting out a yearbook which holds within its pages a record of the steps you took in your process of Self Realization. We would like to thank all those who helped us, particularly: All the wonderful members on the yearbook staff who have worked so hard in producing the CLARION. Mr. Adams for his congeniality and distinguished work on individual portraits. Mr. Pederson, our advisor, for his patience, immeasurable support, diligent labor, and brain work on this your yearbook. And especially you for buying and reading this Book. We hope you enjoy it.
