Standing straight with its limbs unbroken Laughing at the blizzard's shriek; The ship that has sailed the wide ocean; Through many a torrent plowed, Returning to shore still undaunted, A conquerer stern and proud; A building that has fought the tempest, The flash and the earthquake shock, Yet still given forth friendly shelter, Stands firm on its basic rock; Oh, these are these of the worth-while, Muteproof of character high β A mission of strength and endurance, A lift as the world goes by! And thus does the human develope By friction and not by ease Human growth must slumber and falter, But for storms and heavy seas. So stand against shocks and hardships As the bridge of life we span. To those who mark the trails.... We are now beginning the longest most important journey through all time β the journey of life. Our high school days represent but a small part of the fond memories we shall never forget. Part of the fun on our journey was the people we met and the friendships attained. Our leaders have proven themselves worthy and much respected fig- ures along the paths which we have followed. So to their dili- gence, tolerance, patience, and understanding we mark off their first accomplishment along the journey. Always ready for im- provements, activities and full of helpful suggestions, our lead- ers have worked with us and for us so that our journey could reach a successful end β the destination of which our goals are set. We now invite you to come with us through our journey of high school for 1951-52 and pause at various look-out points for a while. See what our leaders, who have marked the trails, have done in guiding our journey of life and happiness. β6β BOARD OF EDUCATION: Keller Christensen, Maurice Barnett, Marial O. Hansen, Margaret Anderson, Dr. W. E. Thorpe, Udell Christiansen, W. Lee Hall. STUDENT COUNCIL: Bart Rowe, Bill Parry, Richard Anderson, Dolores Marx, Morgan Miller, Lee Madsen, Pauline Hansen, Jimmy Hoggan, Clair Christiansen, Suzanne Armstrong, Tommy Hoggan, Caroline Peterson, Reed Christensen, Carol Larsen, William Anderson, Ann Shand. β8β SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE The purpose of education, both within and outside of the schools, is to develop in each individual the knowledge, ideals, and habits, where- by he will find his place in society and use that place for the better- ment of all. I hope we may all work to this end and that this book will serve as an inspiration to help achieve this purpose. Superintendent Maurice Barnett Principal Bruce Jennings PRINCIPALS MESSAGE This Clarion is a very thorough and honest effort to record the scenes, the events and the personalities of the school year in a way that will recall them to us in the days to come. In the years before us we will turn to these pages again and again for the refreshment and inspiration that mem- ories can give us. The record of this year is written in another place than the yearbook; it is also written in the minds and char- acters and personalities of each of us. It has been a year full of opportunity, of activity and of friendliness. And I am sure each of us has profited by the school year in direct proportion to our participation in it. My wish for each of us is that this book may ever serve to recall the worthwhile experiences we have had and the friendships we have enjoyed during the 1951-52 school year. β9β BRUCE JENNINGS Principal Shorthand U. Their journey through our high school days have been memories we shall never forget nor regret, and the trying moments seem to be greatly outnumbered by the joyous fun and successes. We are grateful for the accomplishments we have made and for the paths of learning that have been opened unto us. Our trails of high school life have been of friendship, knowledge, romance, music, athletics, and activity, which have been kept well worn. Now we are searching for another path, the one of success β not failure. We are passing the dividing milestone in our lives, determining our future through experiences of the past. Wherever we roam or whatever our goals may become we shall never leave this path of youth and gaiety we knew during The happy days we spent in Manti High School. With my faith and my honor held high; And if I should lose, let me stand by the road, And cheer as the winners go by. And Lord, may my shouts be ungrudging and clear, A tribute that comes from the heart. And let me not cherish a snarl or a sneer Or play any sniveling part; Let me say, There they ride, on whom laurels bestowed Since tney played the game better than I. Let me stand with a smile by the side of the road. And cheer as the winners g 5 by. So grant me to conquer, if conquer I can. By proving my worth in the fray. But teach me to lose like a rogular man. Spring Fantasy Prom Mistress β Kenna Rae Armstrong Prom Master β Roger Kay Hansen The most anticipated event of the entire year, the Junior Prom of M.H.S. was held under the very proper theme Spring Fantasy , due to the fact that old man winter still prevailed very forcefully in Manti. The Armada was beautifully decorated as a Spring Gar- den with the rock wall around the edge, the rose trellis and garden along the west wall, being complimented by a ceiling of sky blue. The Prominade to the tune of Younger than Spring- time , added its touch of loveliness to the affair. Thanks at this time should be mentioned to the Prom Committees for their splendid cooperation. From the little villa in an old Italian town, the Juniors brought the song, Serenade of the Bells to life in song and dance.
