OmIoiM «ii Contest A NNUALLY during the past eleven years, an Oratorical Contest has been held in the Manti High School. This activity, in connection with general school work, has afforded a wonderful opportunity for development along this line, and gives a chance for higher scholastic attainment. This year nine enthusiastic students prepared orations and entered the contest. In the preliminary tryouts the number of contestants was reduced to four. Verna Shand, Lila Lowry, Ramona Mellor, and Wallace Madsen were chosen to represent the School in the final contest on Washington’s birthday. The Orations were all deserving of much credit. Miss Ramona Mellor, whose subject was “Lincoln, Defender of the Union,” was awarded first place ; the prize being a $20 gold piece. This was sponsored by the Alumni associa- tion of the Manti High School. We take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation for the in- terest taken in this work by the alumni, the members of the school and the general public. Page 26
