This may seem strange to us until we realize that the medium that the dance uses is a basic and simple one - movement of the body. In the classes in modern dance students try to learn techniques that can be used to develop their own choreography. To choreograph is to create movements that have a particular meaning to the choreographer and that tell a story or express rhythmically an idea. The movements when finished and grouped into a pattern are accompanied usually by a rhythmic score. The pleasing picture above is just one example of the outcomes. To acquire the skills needed for public performance the girls must become thoroughly con- ditioned by an arduous program of special calisthenics for good muscle control. Other rhythmical activities offered in the girls' physical education program were social dance forms such as the two-step, the waltz, the samba, the rhumba, jitterbugging, and folk and Square dancing. Svrninrs The year's activities started with discussions of the all-important question of senior pictures. Appointments were made, proofs provided, selections arrived at, and pictures delivered in time for Christmas. The Senior Council discussed plans for a senior court. The seniors were very en- thusiastic and many were willing to Work on the project. ' As Christmas approached the seniors eagerly awaited the annual mid-winter formal. Jolly, fat Santas and Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, set the motif in the small gym. Christmas vacation came and students enjoyed the short festive holidays. Choosing of announcements and memory book, measuring for white caps and gowns for the girls and navy blue for the boys, and ordering announcements and name cards were done i.n our social problems classes. The theme of the Sweetheart Ball in February was carried out in every detail with a decorative valentine tree in one corner and a huge heart placed over the entrance to the dance floor. The walls. were gaily decorated with cupids and hearts. V Snowballs and toboggans best described the annual senior snow trip at Pinecrest on a bright February day. Juniors verly proudly gave the seniors the annual Junior-Senior Prom. The event was the year's high light. After the delightful banquet, dancing was enjoyed by all. Senior tour day, senior breakfast, baccalaureate, and the ,senior assembly followed in rapid succession. h Graduation day was exciting, yet the completion of four years' hard work was not to be treated lightly. The ceremony was filled with emotion, but no regrets, as each member of the class got his well-earned diploma.
