Text from Pages 1 - 288 of the 1969 volume:

S7 A Prologue Familiar faces return; the freshmen don their caps and balloons, and the professors sharpen their wits because it ' s September and a new year at Mans- field State College. September means a hassle with registration lines, lunch lines, and book store lines. The chill in the air turns leaves to gold while the marching band summons students to the football games. College means hang- ups and hang-overs, days and nights, breaks and bad breaks, fun and work, and boys and girls. And Mansfield means frequent trips across the New York State line. What do students at Mansfield expect of college life? Some don ' t expect much . . . some don ' t know what to expect . . . and a few know just what they want. Amid the laby- rinth of social life we attempt to main- tain some semblance of a professional attitude, so we eagerly grab our note- books and boldly step forward bearing a balance of pragmatic and idealistic beliefs . . . and we hope . . . = Carontawan Mansfield State College Mansfield, Pennsylvania Volume 51 1969 Editor — Patricia Palmer Assistant Editor — Jeannie Royston Assistant Editor — Candace Snyder Photo Editor — Gordon Mann A it ■- - ' ' $ i , k Sra ,JT -vVBt - „ '  3 -fcf A V; . ; y. ; - . ft r -M t v ■ r -  % ti.il „Tf% t. In it are reminders of life parts. It mellows with time, changing as we age, changing as our perception of self and college change. In that sense it has chameleon-like quality assuming values even the editors can ' t see at the moment. In more subtle ways a college annual is a measure of what we might become. Leadership roles, the display of talent, the indicators of academic acumen — these, reported as the pres- ent may be footnotes to the future. I wish for Carontawan, 1969, that the edi- tors have selected content to remind us of what we are now, and the potential in us. If they are successful in these choices, this bo will be a source of inspiration as well as a memorable historical piece. And there are those moments when we can- not find ourselves, when we feel that we are being manipulated by the establishment. But through all our academic contemplation, we take time to be ourselves and to seek our own relaxation. 29 — — — _ ? . S3 ■ . - • £■ 33MI - - • - i % ■ - k V _9 JHI 30 32 IV. The 1969 Carontauan Staff is grateful to some very special persons who made this publication possible. Our deepest appreciation goes to Dr. Mildred M Miller. Mr. Alfred Kjelgaard. and Mrs. Esther Jones, our ad- visors, who were always ready to dig in and help us with whatever needed to be done. A special thanks to Mr. Geiss. Only in fantasy can be seen the silhouettes of those struggling minds who roamed the torn and muddy streets and climbed the mountain terrain to make a class, to see a face, to touch a hand, or to pursue parodies of knowledge. Only in memory can be seen the grasp at life ' s intricacies that has been made by struggling students, inebriated with life, seeking meaning in each contorted occurrence, in each fleeting moment, in the springtime days, the water tower, the brieht lobbies, the screen lawns, the side streets, and in the carillon bells. Amidst the labyrinth of life, a search has been made for meaning. 280 igna
