Finishing with a re- spectable record of 8-12, the Lady Tygers had nothing to be ashamed of. However, losses to teams such as Lex- ington and Ashland were dis- heartening. A major highlight of the season for the girls and Coach Wayne Au was beat- ing Malabar. End of season awards went to Melissa Enlow, Terri Zellner, and Andi Lagodich for being captains. Beth Jack- son was named most valu- able, while Missi Hindman was tagged most improved. Opposite page: Top: 1987 JV Vol- leyball Team, Middle left: Kathy Raphael serves the ball. Tyger Golf has respectable season This year’s golf team was young but not afraid to take on the big teams. The Tyger’s golf team ended up with a respectable season. They were 16-13 and placed third in the Tyger Tournament. The Tygers were led by two of their three seniors, medalist Chris Bottorf and the team’s captain Todd Friend, while the younger squad backed them up. Next year’s team will still be young, but it will be more experienced. Opposite pg.: Top left: Bottorf gets out of the woods. Top right: Doug Sayers walks to his next shot. GIRLS LOOK FORWARD TO LEADERSAIP The ’87 Girls’ Tennis Team compiled a record of 5-8, but don’t let that statistic fool you, because ‘‘the team could have easily gone 10-3,” said Coach Diane Spinnati. The first doubles team of Bonnie Parr and Karri Catello made it to the third round of the sectionals. With a g roup of five return- ing seniors coming back to the team next year, Coach Spinnati can only hope that the experience will add suc- cess to next year’s team. Coach Ralph Rawls, who returned from Malabar to keep the Tyger spirit alive, felt that the team didn’t end up anywhere near where they would like to have been. He said that in order to be more competi- tive, they need to compete against more AAA power- house teams and also train throughout the off season months. Coach Rawls said, “They did well considering the obstacles they were forced to overcome.” He is looking forward to next year’s season, which will be led by senior Jeff Gross and junior Troy Bottorf. Awards went to Shane Ri- ley, Captain’s Award; Jeff Gross, Most Improved; and Troy Bottorf, MVP. MANSFIELD SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL THIS IS Opposite page: Top: 1987 Cross Country Team. The team gained a lot of valuable experience with many first year players. The J.V. players will be moving into the varsity ranks next year, hoping to improve. A high point of the sea- son was an excellently executed hook and ladder play never seen before at Senior High. The Tyger freshman team compiled a record of 2-2-2. The team showed great promise throughout the season. They were in every game all the way to the end. The team showed composure and pride on the football field.
