2FECT TYGER N + SENIOR EXPERIENCE CARRIES GOLF TEAM The golf team improved their winning ways this season by recording the most mat- ches won in the past twenty years. The Tyger golfers improved their record to 12-15-2 under coach Dick Henry. They com- peted with other very good golf teams, such as Lexington, Ashland, and St. Peter's. St. Peter's qualified for the state Championship while Lex- ington and Ashland made it to the regionals. Next year will be a rebuilding time for the senior golf team. Bobby Carcione, the only four year award winner, was named MVP and Medalist. He also served as team captain. Most improved player for the '85 season was Ralph Haller. 1. They ended up with a season record of twenty wins and ten losses. First year coach Mike Shrodek feels that the team didn't end up anywhere near where they would like to have been, even though they had the best record in some years. He thinks in order for the team to be more competitive, they need to compete against more AAA powerhouse teams. They also need to train throughout the off-season months. Coach Shrodek thought they did well considering the obstacles that they were forced to over- come.” He also says, “Ме will never reach our peak if we continue to beat up on weak single-A farm teams. Sophomore Eric Hawkins was awarded most valuable player. He also set the school record at 17:21. Most Improv- ed runner was Jason Bunting, and the coach's award for hardest worker went to Tracy White. The Captains for this year's Cross Country team were Eric Hawkins, Rodney Haynes, and Tracy White. 1. 1985-86 Cross Country Team. 2. Jason Bunting and Eric Hawkins wait for their run. 3. Volleyball Team Has Winning Season The 1985 Lady Tygers, coached by John Miefert, had a winning season with 13 wins and 11 losses. Coach Miefert, who took over the volleyball team this year, was really pleased with the way the team developed. He feels that the will have a good year in 1986 and thinks that next years record all around will be better as long as the girls have a win- ning attitude. At least 5 sophomores will join the Varsi- ty team next year, according to the coach. The Lady Tygers' highlights were when they defeated Ashland, Clearfork, and Malabar on their parents’ nights. The Varsity returning players will be Joy Holmes, Doreen Gilbert, Sue Tridico, Bridget Feagin, and Michelle Shade. The graduating players are Crystal Norris, Brenda Conners, Laurie Theaker, Tracy Brown, and Chris Raphael. The captains of the lady Tygers were Crystal Norris, Chris Raphael, and Brenda Conners. The team miss- ed another 6-1 season by three points. The freshman team hopes to improve their record on next year's J.V. Team, where the competition is tougher and the practices are harder. Special awards went to Montell Holland and Dustin Powers. The freshmen compiled a record of 4-3, piloted by coaches Dave Moore and Joe Miniscalco. The J.V.'s had a very long season. Even though it was a very disappointing one, they kept it together and played well as a team. The J.V. players now move up to the Varsity team where the players will endure а longer and tougher season. They hope all of the hard work, blood, sweat, and tears will pay off, so they will see some varsity action. Special awards went to Kevin Groff and Jay Vance. Overall | feel that we had an enjoyable season. Т е Tygers ended their season with a 3-7 record. When asked about next fall's season, he stated, “Hopefully the underclassmen will work hard і the weightroom to gain size, strength, and speed. Because of the lack of size, two assemblies had to be held in order for all students to attend. The 1985-86 Senior High Homecoming Court consisted of Amy Hager escorted by Mike Burch, Doreen Gilbert escorted by Tim Peterson, Bridget Feagin escorted by Braxton Daniels, and Jane Arter escorted by Doug Sayers. The Queen was Jill Bradshaw, who was escorted by Jeff Love. The colors chosen for 1985-86 Homecoming were shades of pink for the court and white for the Queen. The M.C.'s of the Homecoming assembly were Jeff Morrow and Cynthia Rawls. The theme chosen was Moments to Ве Remem- bered.” Slides were used to show past Senior High ех- periences. The slides consisted of past Homecoming Queens and Courts, football teams, students, and teachers. There was a reception held in Pete Henry Gym before the Homecoming dance in honor of the Homecoming Queen. An estimated eighty people attend- ed the reception. Thursday's perfor- mance was better than ex- pected with a nearly sold out crowd. Friday night's perfor- mance was standing room on- ly, and many people had to be turned away. The very demanding job of the director was filled by Jen- nifer Thomas and Sarah Knapp. Homer Whitson and Deanne Gillis served as the producers of the show. Credit is due to Tim Peterson, who spent many hard hours as the set director. The business manager was Jody Jones, who was assisted by Jennifer Krichbaum. The twenty acts, which in- volved a total of 114 people, included singing, dancing, and comedy skits, one of which was presented by a few teachers. PLAYIS A SUCCESS Mansfield Sr. High's major theatrical production of 1985 took place in the auditorium on Nov. 21, 22, 23. Mr. Asher, who served as director, chose Peter Dee's play ‘Voices from the High School.” Unlike most plays that por- tray students as unthinking adults, this play's purpose was to show them as caring individuals. It consisted of several short scenes involving incidents that occur within a typical high school. Fifteen students took part in the production. Among them were members of the Interna- tional Thespian Society, a club made up of people who show a strong interest in the theater. Those participating earn membership points for both on stage and backstage work. Also involved in the produc- tion were those who worked behind the scenes. There were 16 students who worked hard to make Voices in the High School a success. 1. Everyone shares a relaxing mo- ment. 2. Greg Franklin and James Dollish perform. 3.
