Debbie The dedication of the 1984-85 yearbook is made to a very special person, Mrs. Annie McQuate. For as long as we can remember, you have been a constant source of encouragement and support to us. We have benefitted from your motherly advice, and we have grown to appreciate your many wonderful qualities. We will never be able to thank you enough for being our friend, and for teaching us what it means to “love one another.” 4 We would also like to dedicate the Ember to Mr. Gary Kocheiser who has brought happiness and fun into many ordinary days! We will never forget the wonderful (and ornery!) times we have shared, and we want to thank you for giving us so much of your time and energy. Because of your example, we have learned to enjoy every minute of life, and as a result, we have many excellent memories. 5 Back Row — Dave Toy, Dan Scott, Davis Houck, Tim Clark. I 41 HE LEADS US ON He leads us on By paths we did not kow; Upward he leads us, though our steps be slow. Tough storms and darkness oft obscure the day, Yet when the clouds are gone We know he leads us on. He leads us on, through all the unquiet years; Past all our dream land hopes, and doubts, and fears, He guides our steps. Through all the tangled maze. Of sin, or sorrow, and o’er clouded days We know his will is done; And still he leads us on. And he, at last, After the weary strife — After the restless fever we call life — After the dreariness, the aching pain. The wayward struggles which have proved in vain, After our toils arc past, Will give us rest at last. 42 Lisa Augustine David Back Mark Baughman Lyncttc Beal April Brown Kim Butler Brian Cassell Tim Clark Debbie Clcckner Kirsten Clements Karen Cox Beth DcWolf Natalie Dotson Nancy Dowsctt Steve Entcnmann John Forbes Brent Fout Stacy French Debbie Garafclo Val Gayheart David Graybcal Cheryl Hcncyc Dawn Herr Emily Hildebrand Barb Jenkins Jennifer Keinath Konda Lilly Matt Maiycr Ron Manchester Cindy Meadows Lynn Mortimer Taunia Nixon Todd Pennington Jennifer Pyles 44 JUST PASSING Passing out of the shadow Into a purer light; Stepping behind the curtain Getting a clearer sight; KimSaudcr Juanita Schonaucr Darcy Schrocdcr Mark Schuler Jim Shipley Mike Sipes Jeff Smith Joe Sorg Christa Stahl Jon Stierhoff Shelley Tormaschy Mike Varga Steve Wilcox Mark Wolf George Zachman Lora Zimmerman Rich Zinscr Passing out of the shadow Into eternal day. The Varsity and Reserve girls had an all-in-good season for the tough schedule they had. The record of four wins and fourteen losses does not show the true victories they experienced. They placed in the A.C.S.I. tournament and made it to the sectional finals which is the farthest the girls have ever gone. The reserve girls had a good season with a record of eight wins and four losses. Anissa “Ness” Burdett picked up the Torch Award which is for best attitude and spiritual leadership. She also picked up the M.V.P. award for being most improved. 61 Back — Coach Cline. David Stewart, Pat Burton, Dan Scott, John Stierhoff. The team beat top seeded Norwalk St. Paul to win the first sectional in the school’s history. They then faced a sad defeat to Scnccca East to lose in districts. The top scorers for the season were Rick Dixon and Tim Clark with the leading rebounders being Pat Burton and Dave Stewart. With the help of these fine players, the varsity Flames placed third in the A.C.S.I. rcgionals. They finished with a record of thirteen wins and eight losses. Upon losing in districts, the team was awarded a certificate of recognition for a fine season from Edward Meehan, mayor of Mansfield. And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim. But its value is for greater than a mountain made of gold — For gold is cold and lifeless, it can neither see nor hear. And in the time of trouble it is powerless to cheer — It has no ears to listen, no heart to understand, It cannot bring you comfort or reach out a helping hand — So when you ask God for a Gift, be thankful if He sends Not diamonds, pearls, or riches, but the love of real true friends. 76 JR.
