18 Varsity Football Football Squad Ends Season 7-3 The 1982 Tyger Football squad finished the season with a 7-3 record, the best since 1976. They also got off to their best start in years with victories over Cleveland East Tech (48- 13), Columbus Linden McKinley (21-6), and Malabar (21-7). The win over Malabar was very gratifying for Coach Dean since it was for the city cham- pionship and to avenge last years heartbreaking loss. The fourth game of the season saw the Tygers fall to Madison (14-17) on a last sec ond field goal. They re | bounded the next week with a win over Lexington (25-0). The most disappointing game was a (0-34) homecom- ing defeat from Cleveland Benedictine. The Tygers showed their class with big wins over Lorain Southview (41-6) and Wooster Triway (39-13), before being out talented by state power Massillon (14-39). The Tygers scored more points against Massillon this year than did any other team. The Tygers concluded the season by sending the seniors out winners with a (21-0) win over Ashland. Tyger award winners were Vernon Hairston, Jimo Adams, defensive lineman, and cap- tains award; Craig Leedom, of- fensive back; Ed Stevens, offen- sive lineman; Terrence Witcher, defensive back; Orlando Tackett, coaches award; Paul Schroeder, captains award.
