Like so many theatrical offerings now on stage, screen, and television, this play follows the current trend of returning to the nostalgic days of the 1930’s. English Languages, History, Show Students =D The English Department worked to improve each student’s ability to convey information and ideas, both through spo- ken and written English. To instill inter- est, students were given a wide range of courses to choose from. Ten courses in English were offered this year to the ju- niors. Seniors had used this type of pro- gram for some time, and next year’s soph- omores will be included in this program. The aim of the Foreign Language Department is to give an understanding of the cultures of languages being studied, and to teach the art of communication both in writing and speaking. The History Department aids students in gaining an understanding and apprecia- tion of our national heritage. Students have been provided with visual aids, texts, maps, and field trips to bring into focus the making and preserving of history all around us. Secretaries had many duties, such as making important daily announcements, recording absences, and distributing IBM cards for grade reports, as well as carrying on administrative corre- spondence. Librarians showed stu- dents the techniques of library use. The cooks at MHS made delicious and nutritious meals that helped students make it through their day of hard work. Some of us have been together since grade school — the years of playing tag and four-square on the playgound and making our first ad- vances toward the opposite sex. Then we advanced to Junior High where we met new kids from ‘“‘that other grade school.”’ Boy! were we mature then! We started having and using B.O. spray and all sorts of neat things like that. Then, after we finished off those years, they threw us all into one big school and Our Sophomore year money-mak- ing projects such as candy sales, car washes, and an ‘‘Ugly Contest” helped get the class off to a good start. Officers were President Bob Bowen, Vice-President Ted Wil- liams, Secretary Julie Parker, and Treasurer Donna Gardner, and our advisors were Mr. Marchant and Mrs. Bowman. During our Junior year, we concen- trated mainly on Homecoming ac- tivities. Queen Alice Bond was crowned at the Homecoming Assem- bly and presided over the game and dance that evening. A new set of offi- cers replaced the old. Twila Walker was President; Ted Williams, Vice- President; Kelly Tharp, Secretary; and Debbie Steverson, Treasurer. Then came our big year, our Senior year; the year we were leaders. The success of the school was in our hands. Through the help of our offi- cers, President Twila Walker, Vice- President Ted Williams, Secretary Kelly Tharp, and newly-elected trea- surer Kathy Smouse, and our advi- sors, we put forth our best effort and emerged as a successful class. We involved ourselves in activities rang- ing from football to the chess club, and excelled in areas from auto me- chanics to physics. With a little help from the under- classmen, we staged a successful “Bengal Productions Presents Varsity Varieties. Mrs. Martha Thomas directed Personal Appear- ance, another fantastic Senior Class Play. Queen Lori Beeman and her court helped in our prominent track assembly. Then, as our Senior year was coming to an end, we saw fellow students and friends honored during class exercises. Finally, the Prom, Baccalaureate, and what we all had waited for, Commencement. None of the future classes of MHS will ever be exactly the same as the class of 1972, but we hope that they will have as many happy memories as we have. oi ANAL Ay POG ae Bi ] Stage band member, Tom Holevas, practices for Varsity Varieties. We owe a great deal to the members of our staff, who not only worked hard to put together the Manhigan, but who also served as this year’s business staff. We would also like to thank Cindy Henry, our business manager, Regina Arter, our photogra- pher, and Donna Gardner, who provided us with the artwork. We also wish to express our appreciation to our advisor, Mr. David Gross, and to the American Yearbook representative, Mr. Earl Parks. vy At this time we would like to extend our thanks to the Class of 1972 for their fi- nancial aid. In closing, we wish next year’s staff the best of luck and hope that they will have as many memorable experiences as we had.
