mmtmmMtun mm.m,m V Whether you stepped alertly or stumbled drowsily toward the front door, your reflection from the glass windows returned your attitudes. As you pushed your image aside , you opened the door to the adventure of another school day. 4 The regiment of keys were removed from their rests and released the buildings countless doorways. The public address amplified the announcements of the day, and offices, classrooms, and hallways were soon alive with activity. 5 A doorway to study and scholastic achievement Our Annex doors, open to musical talent. At this door the back stage excitement and the anxiously beating heart is in every performer who waits to enter. Through these doors the anticipating, but calm audience enters. 7 WE DEDICATE TO YOU . . ♦ 8 MR. PERCY F. HALL We dedicate the 1962 Man-higan to Mr. Percy F. As captain and quarterback of the 1941 Tygcr team, he led them to an undefeated season. He won two letters as a quarterback at Ohio State, while under Buckeye coachcs--Paul Brown, Paul Blxler, and Wes Fesler. Following his Ohio State days, Doolittle spent two years as backfield coach at Brown University and was head football coach at Grandview Heights. He spent the next season as backfield coach at Canton Lincoln. Then he was head coach at Owosso, Michigan. As head coach for six years at Flint (Mich. ) Central, Doolittle won almost three times as many games as he lost. He had one unbeaten season and his 19S8 team won the Michigan State championship. Senior High lost a great coach this year to West Point. He gave the school a sense of fair play and sportsmanship, as well as much spirit. Coach Doolittle is now serving as backfield coach BILL DOOLITTLE at thc Academy. Now that Mr. Hoffman is Athletic Director, Jim Burkett will be taking over as head man for the bengal cagers. Next year as head coach, Burkett will have some fine boys coming up to take the place of the graduating seniors. The finale for the regular season's schedule was against the Sandusky Blue Streaks. Don Rather, Sandusky star, wasn't enough to stop the Tygers, as the well-balanced Mansfield attack defeated Sandusky. In the tournaments, Mansfield edged Gallon in its first game. Winning the sectional championship was easier than expected, as Madison bowed to the Tygers in this title tiff. The game with 98 Tiffin was close all the way, but the Tygers won by Spencer Davis Senior Guard five points. The final tournament game with St. Peters was the climax of a great season. Having fallen behind early in the game, the Tygers fought hard to keep the margin inside ten points. In the fourth quarter, John Hclscr hit four jump shots in a row, cutting the lead to two points. Streaking across the stage, the light from the cameras swallows our images and transmits them into our senior pictures. The programs have been distributed announcing the commencement of the Senior Class of 1962. Our make-up has been applied. First came the basic foundation consisting of our studies, homework, and special projects. Knowledge is the key to success. The Class of 1962 has at least attained the lock to success, and our key will come with experience. Not to be excluded from the basic make-up are the numerous senior activities. Varsity Varieties and the Class Play have prevented our class from being forgotten in the whirl of movement. Next the powder of society is applied. Representing this enrichment is our prom, Polynesian Paradise. This night of nights will often be reflected in our memories, fading gradually, but never becoming too dim for us to see. Eye-liner is applied to fence in our acres ol remembrances; eyeshadow, to silhouette our summits of hope. Rouge signifies the unlimited school spirit exhibited by our senior class. As the glare of graduation penetrates our thoughts and feelings, we consider the brightness of the future. Now we have fulfilled our rolcs--the end has come. In our red and white gowns of confidence, we advance to the platform on Arlin Field to receive our diplomas, making our final bow to the theater of learning, M. H. Outside, the rows of ready cars awaited their eager drivers and passengers. Inside, the doors that opened your way to classes and activities were closed in temporary rest. 268 The halls emptied: Some left with the usual burst of three o'clock enthusiasm, for they were completing just another school day. Others departed more thoughtfully, for they were reflecting on a concluded high school career. 269 WE WISH TO THANK ♦ ♦ We have tried to present to you a memory of your school year at Mansfield Senior High School. The Manhigan is the product of many people's working efficiently together. We would first like to thank Mr. Hailey for his time, effort, and much-appreciated help. The staff also deserves much credit for their long hours of work and worry resulting in a job well done. Gratitude is extended to the following business firms, without whose help the 1962 Manhigan could not have been published: Armen Studio....................................Photography Bucll-Kraft Studio..............................Photography Forest Hill Company...............................
