SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Resident .......... Donald Hart « ice President.... George Dawkins Secretary .......... Carol Blust Treasurer ....... Frederic Pryor Co-Advisors— Mrs. Martha Thomas Mr. Carl Thomas Class History Climbing aboard the space ship ''Education” in September 1939, 588 small students commenced on thoir long journey toward their goal—graduation. The ship stopped first at the elementary planets of Western, Hedges, Brinkorhoff, etc., leaving various numbers of students at each stop. After six long yoars of pigtails, marbles, and the 3 R's, 562 remaining scholars again embarked and after a 3 months' journey landed on 2 larger planets— Simpson and Appleseed—for a 3 years' stay. As time wont on, school activities and broadened interests began to occupy thoso studonts lives. As the final year approached, Harold RostelU was chosen to lead the group at Simpson with Ed Miller as Vice-President and Sandra Stutz as secretary-troasurer. At Appleseed Bill Reale was elected President: John Sawyor. Vico-Prosl-dent; Lois Reichert, secretary; and lay Herbert, Treasurer. As rivalry grew up between thoso two planots, football and basketball teams were organized. Aftor a season of providing stiff competition for various other planets thoso two toams clashod, the results giving Simpson the title of Junior Championship for both sports. The 2 queens chosen to reign over tho football game woro Carol Johns for Appleseed and Sandra Stutz for Simpson. Under the leadership of Mary Bogner and Jack Poirco as editors, the Appleseed Press was issued, and the Simpson Timos wont to press under the direction of John Damron with John Flghtor as assistant-editor. As the 3rd yoar drow to a closo, 480 students, 272 from Simpson and 208 from Apploscod, once aqain boarded the ship Education for their new destination —the planet of Mansfield Sonlor High. For their first year this newly formed group oloctod Phil Casto, John Fighter, Helen Stacey and Evolyn Schroeder as their officers. Realizing the importance of starting early in preparation for their senior year, this class launched their successful project of soiling tickets to the stage shows entitled The Best is yet to Como. As the second year approached, Bill Reale, Bill Cline, Sandra Stutz, and Mary Ann Taylor were chosen to head the class tor the ensuing year. During this year five junior girls received the honor of roiqninq over the homecominq football qame. These wore Sandra Stutz as queen and Janet Widders. Chloo Snyder, Morideth Nail and Pat SharTock as her court. As a climax to thoir hiqh school caroor this class of 1951 started their senior yoar with the election of lour able and competent olficers, these being Don Hart. President: Georqo Dawkins. Vice Prestdont; Carol Blust, Secretary: and Frod Pryor, Treasurer. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Thomas took over tho arduous task ol class advisors. Mary Ann Taylor and lohn Fiqhtor were appointed co-editors for the Hypho . During the football season such seniors as Maurer, Loo, Jordan, Kent, Todd, and Lindsay took the spotlight. During the Christmas soason, greeting cards wero sold and the annual Christmas sing was held in Central Park under the direction ol the carolers. On February 17th the talent-filled Varsity Varieties was given lor the 2nd annual tlmo at tho Mansfield High School auditorium. Along with tho Easter activities the Sunrise Service was sponsored by the senior class at the First Presbyterian Church. A new feature was begun in order to honor tho successful basketball team which took both sectional and district crowns. This was the Basketball Bounce. This dance gave recognition to such outstanding athletos as Guy, Hammer, Hagor, and many others, but especially to Ken McCally, who for the second straight year was choson as the most outstanding Scholastic Basketball player in the State. As the year drow to a close many activities filled the seniors’ time. Prom committees were chosen anc the cast announced lor the Class Play. After successfully completing Baccalaureate. Cla: Day. and an all-niqht prom, this enthusiastic class, cc sistlnq of 342 students, on the eveninq of June 7, 19! again boarded thoir spaco ship Education” and tc off for the planet Boyond Tomorrow. 26
