With great performances by every player we had a great time. The M.V.P. was senior captain Chris Phillips who had a record of 9-7-2. The special award was given to Cory Green who had a record of 5-11-2. The rest of the Mansfield Golf team con- tributed greatly. The golf team would like to give a special thanks to Coach Hershman for making the season possible. We would also like to thank the rest of the Golf team for coming out and giving it your best. Coach Chris Hogan, Co- Captains: Aileen Turnbull and Lisa Cunningham, and Coach Mary Fort BOYS SOCCER 1-15-2 The Mansfield Soccer Team led by captains Peter Hourigan and Mike Folan led quite a productive season. The season got off to a rocky start when we didn’t have a coach until 1 week before the season got started. Nevertheless, Mansfield was able to start its fifth year with a varsity soccer team. Seven seniors returned for this season. The two captains along with John Owens, who played fabulous goal; Paul Glynn who was always aggressive and played great defense; Humberto Gutierrez whos suprising talent did won- ders for the offensive line; Jason Ferrara who scored a hat trick in his only game as forward and led us to our victory; Mike Hargreaves who kept up our excitement and was always a threat to score; and Scott McGourty who had his greatest season yet and won the most valuable senior award. The team was helped by the only four Juniors, Marc Goldberg, Mark Hargreaves, Ed Trudell and Damian Marzoratti. All of these players mark substantial contributions with their hustle and talent. The team looks forward to seeing them return as seniors to lead the team in 1989-90. Patrick Hourigan, Dan Owens, and Paul Hofmann are the soul Sophomores that will return as Juniors. Their abilities as defense and halfback will continue to help the team for the next two years. We were encouraged this year by the six freshman, Jim O’Dris- coll, Steve Tierney, Brian Cauley, Shawn Burns, Bruce MacIntyre, and John Patrinos, that came out for the team. Their ability and effort was definetely noticed and gives us hope for the upcoming years. The seniors of 1988-89 wish luck to the Mansfield Soccer team in the coming years and to our new coach Chris Traina. Back row: Tim MacIntyre, Boston Knowles, Michelle Nuscher, Coach Morales. Despite having a winless season, both the boys and girls teams were successful. Cross Country is a sport which numbers are essential to win- ning. Unfortuneatley, we did not have those numbers but that did not stop us from turning in some outstanding per- formances. Coach Morales’ dedication to the teams tr anslated into dedica- tion present in ourselves. Although we did not win any meets because of the simple lack of participation, the real satisfaction came from the improve- ment of the team as a whole thanks to Mr. Morales! Diane Smith, Boston Knowles FIELD HOCKEY The 1988 field hockey team suffered some tough losses to Stoughton, O.A., and rival Canton. However, the team prevailed to tie for 3rd place in the competitive Hockomock league for the fourth consecutive year MHS qualified for the Division 2 State Tournament. Yet, MHS lost in the first round to W areham, 1-0, after a grueling 2 hour, quadruple overtime game. The MHS girls field hockey team will be dominant next year with many returning varsity players. K.C., J.B., P.W. wish M.M., J.P., the 1989 field hockey team the best of luck. = CranBarry 74 Tri-Captains:Jen Bacon, Patty Wellman, Kris- ten Carter,Coach Le- vine and Coach Hill. FOOTBALL We believe that this year was very suc- cessful. We may not have won that many games, but we learned a lot and most impor- tantly, we had fun. Nobody ever gave less that 100% and that is all the coaches, the captains, and the player’s themselves could ask. Our record (2-7-1) may not show many wins but the 1988 Mansfield Football team is a bunch of winners! With the debut of Coach Stu Hershman and the return of only 3 players from last years varsity, people looked at this year as a re- building season. Because of this fact, we always played as the un- derdogs, which we believe contrib- uted to why the team practiced so hard and played so aggressively. This season was not without its high points though, who could for- get the news that the Hornets beat the Co-Hockomock league champs the Oliver Ames Tigers, not to mention the four or five games that the Hornets lost only by one point. In years to come, look for the Hor- nets to not only improve, but to take the Hockomock by storm un- der Coach Hershman. B. Scarpellini, A. Rose, G.
