A non-league game against Rockland the following week gave the Hornets their first of the sea- son. The next game was against rival Oliver Ames. After a long, hard hitting game Mansfield left the field with a heartbreaking 14-12 loss. Two home games followed with a 28-12 loss to North Attleboro and a large win over Sharon 32-6. Let’s take our time and think a lot, Let’ s bow our heads and reminisce awhile. When we see the future, we see an open door, There’s so much approaching, so much out there to explore. The time has come to say goodbye, But don’t ask why, just realize it’s true. And everytime you back away, Just understand there’s something there for you. Take a look around you and smile at a friend, For today and always good things must have an end. Before we meet our destiny, Let’ s end our little melody with pride, Remembering to reach our dreams, And promising to take each day in stride. When we see the future, we see an open door, There’s so much approaching, so much out there to explore. Take a look around you and smile at a friend, For today and always, good things must have an end. ANNE JACKSON SENIOR CLASS ADVISOR | ‘ = + J Lr be 5 3: OVAL SOLS VATHEMA TICS MANSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY Our philosophy at Mansfield High School addresses a two-fold concern: first, what students should learn, acquire, and become for their sakes and for the sake of a democratic society; secondly, what the staff should do to discipline, educate, and inspire students for the good of all. The union of students and staff commitment to such concerns reflects the expectations set forth in our philosophy. We acknowledge that a vital mission of our school is to help every student to appreciate his or her uniqueness, to realize the extent of his or her aptitudes and to discipline them to the fullest of his or her ability. Further acknowledging that learning has both an intrinsic and pragmatic value, we encourage students not only to be curious about themselves, but also to be aware of their world. Therefore, we expect our students to develop a sense of self- awareness as well as to get along with other members of society through the exercise of understanding, acceptance and tolerance. In order to meet these expectations, we provide a broad-based curriculum that allows students to mature physically, intellectually, aesthetically, and culturally. In recognizing that our community — a community that is experiencing industrial growth and changing values — has an inherent stake in the educational process, we encourage an active partnership among home, school and community resources. We believe that students and staff alike must nurture mutual respect and tolerance, must strive for self-discipline and compro- mise in order to make intelligent choices in preparing for the future. We believe that a student whose mind has been stimulated will continually enjoy the adventure and excitement of acquiring new skills, insights, and ideas; also, the student will benefit by effectively being able to handle the maze of real-life situations which confront him or her. Consequently, we envision our students making decisions that reflect their having realized both their abili- ties and limitations. As a result, the consequences of such decision- making will imbue them with pride of accomplishment. MANSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL OBJECTIVES To realize our philosophy, we identify the following objectives designed to meet the needs of our students: il To provide for the individual characteristics of each learner by supplying learning experiences that take into account the wide range of individual learning rates, interests, styles, abili- ties, and personal needs. . To provide career counseling, vocational planning and other programs which prepare students to enter the work force successfully. . To develop abilities in a student to make responsible choices for which he or she is accountable; to offer both curricular and extra-curricular opportunities whereby a student can encoun- ter decision-making experiences. . To promote through a wide range of planned experiences the physical, social, cultural, intellectual, and emotional growth of each student. . To provide structured activities and classroom instruction which assist our students to take their place as responsible citizens in an ever-changing democratic society. . To present to the students both values and diverse value systems so that they will be able to select among them those which will be helpful to determine who they are, where they are going, and why. . To provide those learning experiences which motivate stu- dents to strive for accomplishment, to achieve maximum potential, and to recognize their limitations. . To stimulate an awareness in students of their need to survive future demands and challenges by stressing that education is a continuous process — one that should be an integral part of their life-time experiences.
