Chandler The musical that year was ‘‘Oliver!’’ and the more we aged the more parts we captured. The exchange this year was held with Mansfield, Pennsylvania; ‘‘MA meets PA.’’ Before we realized it, another year had passed, and we were on our way to becoming Jolly juniors. Our junior year at Mansfield High was our busiest and most exciting year. To start off the year, we were excited in greeting a new member to our class, Chikako Takebe from Japan. In exchange for Chikako, sophomore Greg Tarsa was sent abroad to Australia to live for one year. Chikako’s one year stay in Mansfield was a most gratifying experience for everyone concerned. The class officers that year were Barry Nilson, president, John Collela, vice president, Bernadette Carlone, secretary, and Kim Joseph as treasurer. The class advisors were Mrs. Pearce and Mr. The autumn of 1970 marked our entry into M.H.S. as freshmen. It was the beginning of many things to come. The first of these things was our escape from the dreaded initiation by the mighty Seniors. We elected as class officers that year; President Barry Nilson, Vice-President Gerry Bedard, Secretary Bernadette Carlone, and Treasurer Dianne Inglese. The first highlight of that year was our production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”’ The all-freshman cast played to a standing-room-only crowd and surprised everyone with a total success. With the football season came something new to M.H.S., the naming of the Homecoming Queen. Senior, Anna Colella was the first girl to be chosen. Since then it has become an annual event. The last weekend in March climaxed three months of hard work by the drama club. They presented ‘ Guys and Dolls.”’ A few up and coming freshmen managed to capture a few principal parts. April brought the annual band exchange. Band members traveled to Snyder, New York, for a week with the Amherst Band. They later returned to spend a week with Mansfield Band members. Our freshman year soon came toaclose. . . On our return to school in September as veterans of one year, we elected our Sophomore class officers; James LoDico, President, Dottie Palanza, Vice President, Bernadette Carlone, Secretary, and Kim Joseph, Treasurer. We managed to hold a dance in the fall. It gave our class the momentum it needed to get our class going for the next three years. The Homecoming Queen that year was senior Peggy Devlin. The sophomore class was represented in the court by Jean DePillo and Kim Abbott. In preparation for our junior year, we were measured for our class rings. We all looked forward to the day in September of ’72 when we would receive our Mansfield High School class rings. Albertini. The homecoming queen’s court made up by the juniors were Jean DePillo and Lisa Boldrigini. Our first money making project was our candy sale. The winner who sold the most boxes of candy was Pauline Chandler. Our next project was our Ham Bean supper. This was held during the Industrial Fair. All the juniors that participated as waiters, waitresses, and cooks were relieved to hear that the customers were pleased with the meal. In the middle of our junior year Beatrice Alperin and Patricia Roach were selected to represent MHS at Girls’ State. Also the musical ‘‘Hello Dolly’? was being presented to the general public during the last two days of March. Finally it was the night of June 1st prom night. This was the night we had been working for with all our money-raising projects. The theme of the 1973 Prom was “A Time for Love.’’ The junior girls who made the queen’s court were K. Moon, D. Delliacano, K. Abbott, J. Butler, C. Madan and P. Roach. Towards the end of the year the class of '73 graduated and the class of '74 had entered their final year in Mansfield High School as seniors. At the beginning of our final year at MHS we elected senior class officers Patricia Roach, president, Mary Qualters, vice president, Bernadette Carlone, secretary, Kim Joseph, treasurer. Our class advisors, were Mrs. Pearce and Mr. Albertini. The yearbook staff consisted of Pauline Chandler and Maureen O'Donnell Dill, co-editors; Dottie Palanza, copy editor, and Gloria Taylor, business manager, with Miss Hunt as our advisor. Being Seniors we had the freshman initiation rally. At the rally the cheerleaders chose Edna Burt and Craig D’Ambra as Spirit Queen and King. We had three exchange students with us this year; Kataline Garcia, who graduated with us, from Bolivia; Bernadette Jorge, and Mario Netto, both from Brazil. Meanwhile, two members of the class of '75 went abroad. ad ay ( _ aa a Ay c 157 We had the Sadie Hawkins Dance this fall. Lil’ Abner was Gerry Bedard and Daisy Mae was Linda Larkin. The dance was a smashing success in more than one way; a good time was had by all and the profits were ‘‘a shot in the arm’’ to our treasury. Another fall event was climaxed by the crowning of a queen; and Lisa Boldrigini became Homecoming Queen. The Christmas Ball also boasted royalty; Peter Day became Snow King and Sally Bruno was chosen Queen. | After a slow winter, the merry-go-round started again with the production of ‘‘Fiddler on the Roof.”’ Its cast contained many talented seniors as well as underclassmen. Not soon after the band went to Walt Disney world in Florida. The ten day trip capped off four years of hard work for many of us. The cycle continued with us celebrating our Senior Power with one official Skip Day held on May 9 at the Cape. May 21 was the day that the top ten visited Rotary and on the 28th the top 15 went to the Lions Club. Not long after, the junior class prom-senior reception was held at the King Philip Ballroom. Its theme was “‘precious and few are these moments,”’ and was presided over by Lisa Boldrigini and Ricky Cooper as king and queen. Excitement mounted as class day approached because graduation was not far behind. June 3rd started with Class Day during which awards were given to the seniors and the class will and prophecy were read. Also our original class song, ‘‘Remember”’ was sung publicly for the first time. The day ended with the Class Banquet at the Moonbeam in Taunton; where we presented our class advisors with pewter mugs and the yearbook advisor with a terrarium. Graduation was the final event to end our lives at MHS and was celebrated with tears and laughter for the next two days.
