Her Grandmother Virginia Porter Katherine (Kathy) was my sister, but she was more than that. She was a friend and a pal. Kathy was always very caring, loving and kind and everyone who knew her loved her very much. So did I. Her fabulous outlook on life, her ambitions, and her goals carried her further in her life in 15 years than mine have carried me at age 22. Kathy will always have a very special place in my heart and the hearts of all who loved her. She was a super person. She was always a bright and lively child, very out- going and such a lovely personality. She loved sports and horseback rid- ing as well as other out- door activities. In April 1983,she was stricken with cancer. But she quickly ac- cepted it and made the best of it. She received alot of intensive treatments. But Kathy still had a smile and kind word for every- one. And she lived each day to its fullness. On No- vember 1, 1983, God called Kathy home to be with Him. Hold all your good memories of her as we do. God only knows his divine plan. Her ordeal was great and her suffering severe, but it has all culminated into eternal rest. We often have plans and wish for them to come to fruition, but the Master’s plan must take priority. We had things that we wanted to see her do and perhaps she had plans of her own, but God had a nobler task in mind. His thoughts are not always our thoughts. His ways are not always our ways. But His will must be Wenn tee eee ee Seek Se ee Kathy was a very kind, thoughtful and considerate person. She was always concerned about her friends and if they were ill. She was a wonderful friend. Kathy had many talents. She could sing, skate and twirl. It was always a pleasure to see Kathy in the halls at school. She always greeted you with a smile. Kathy was a great friend and was there when you needed her. Lynn Edwards Homeroom 206 These are shot (immunization) records. Heavier immunization requirements were mandated by law for the 1983-1984 school year. Man, did that create some commo- tion! On the first day of school, more than two hundred students were directed to the Little Theater to await confirmation of their records. OdCH! THAT HURTS! Though an entire summer had been allowed, there were many who spent the early days of September waiting in lines at clinics and doctors’ offices to get the necessary shots. Although some said it didn’t hurt, here’s one who said it did. A Night To Remember Yes! June 8, 1984 will be the night that the graduating senior class of 84 will be proud to remember. At the end of their junior year they immedi- ately began feeling the senioritis, while taking portraits during the summer. Returning to school in Sep- tember, they selected colleges, paid dues, and ordered caps and gowns. Before you knew it June had come, and seniors planned for the future. This is what every senior wants. Tracy Clay is glad she made it. The moment has arrived. 1984: The Year Of All Years This marked the beginning of the end for the class of ’'84, anew beginning for the class of ’87 and the dawn of a new day for the classes of ’85 and ’86. Mustang pride was to blossom all over and make the year 1984, the year that will never be forgotten. Manor Highlights In 1984 the Mustangs reached heights that had been a long time coming. The football team put together a win- ning season under Coach Gordon. Girls’ cross country excelled in style. All State chorus honors were ours. Maria Moore hurdled her way to a state championship. The mood of confidence was spread among the students, faculty and alumni. Our Mustangs were enjoying their finest season ever and were tied for first place in the district, sporting a 5-1 record. But victory evaded the Mustangs as the Tigers of Oscar Smith handed the Mustangs a 10-0 defeat. Although that was a big blow to the Mustang pride, it did not completely destroy the homecoming spirit. Last year’s homecoming king and queen, Kenny Jones and Dana Brown came back to support the Mustangs. The Art Club won the float competition and Dexter Ferguson and Sheresé Boone were crowned as the new king and queen. Top: L. Homecoming assembly gets underway. R. THE MARVELOUS MAINSTREAMS This year will mark the graduation of three students who have meant a great deal in the growth of Manor High School. They have led other students to re-evaluate their own situations and taught them that physical handicap is not an indication of mental defi- ciency. These students have not only been placed into the main- stream of classroom activities, but they have involved themselves in the mainstream of co-curricalar activities. Their main involve- ments have been in forensics and drama. But to be master of ceremonies for a school program and working on the yearbook staff have also been facets of their involvement. ‘‘We salute Brenda Wynn (top), Robert Carter (middle), and Scott Spradlin (bottom) ee ae 18 TS ee 0 2a eee ee ee eee ee woes - “ a == - Cc : SSS SSS aE 19 Senior Class Officers And ponsor The senior class is ably led by Mrs. Sheavly. Each home- room elects a representative and an alternate to help sup- port these activities. They are pictured to the left. onopoly’s The Game Angie Barnes defeated Jamie Kelly and Lisa Jackson in their game. Laura-Lynn Council and Robin Holley observed the last game in progress with Mrs. Moore in which Don- na Dabney finally defeated Jeff Dover and Chuck Kozoyed. Mrs. Moore's economics class and Mr. Claud’s sociology class spent a couple of days playing monopoly during the first semester. They did it to get an idea of what the business world is like. During this time, some people actually found out how ruthless other people can be when it comes to money. Laura-Lynn Council, Donna Dabney, and Eric Rockwell took control of the games at their table and won in the economics class and Angie Barnes was one of the winners in the sociology class. 61 62 ‘‘The Green-Eyed “The Green-Eyed Monster’’ was a play sponsored and performed by the Manor Drama Club. The play was presented in conjunction with the fall sports award banquet and later to other portions of the student body. In the play, a football player, Gene, dresses as a girl to save a star, Ben, from breaking curfew. Left — Marlene Boone, Betty, finally confronts ‘‘Gene’’, John Reardon. Right — The master-minds behind the whole scheme were Tom Matthews and Frank Carter played by Burnie James and Troy DeMasse. They coerce Gene into playing a girl’s role which he does reluctantly at first, but then really gets carried away with it. Left — Gene, pla yed by John Reardon, was trying to whisper “sweet nothings’ in Ben's ear who was played by John Lietuvninkas. Mr. Mitchell, who played the father, directed the play. He is the sponsor of the Drama Club. After Gene's father (played by Darwin Anderson) comes in and exposes Gene's true identity, the scheme is over and everybody has a good laugh. Standing: Troy DeMasse, John Reardon, and John Lietuvninkas. Sitting: Mr. Mitchell, Lynn Edwards, and David Kozoyed. Burnie James and Lynn Edwards really look surprised as Mr. Mitchell, the father, comes home unexpectedly. The play was an overwhelming success to the Manor athletes who laughed from start to finish. John Reardon, president of the drama club who played the character Gene deserved an Oscar for his performance. 63 T: lent In Art The 1984 Manor High School a Society of Arts and Crafts sponsored by Kenneth Porter Jr. has traveling art shows, lo- cal art exhibitions and club sales projects. It is sponsored by the Business Department. 64 The 1983-84 Ameri- can Industrial Arts Stu- dent Association (AIASA) at Manor High School is sponsored by Mr. Mallonee and Mr. Cornelius.
