Text from Pages 1 - 55 of the 1961 volume:

ALMA MATER Dear Central High School We thy children bring to thee, Our best ambitions, love and charity, In thy halls of learning We will strive to do our best, As we search for knowledge Preparing for life’s test. Chorus: Central, Dear Central Loyal hearts pledge faith to thee, Central Alma Mater, True we will always be. Dear to thy students Central High thy name will hold, Proud of thy glory By us all foretold. Though we soon might leave thee, Our thoughts will return, And throughout our lives For guidance yearn. Scanning and Restoration J. Clement DEDICATION We, the Seniors of 1961, wish to dedicate our yearbook, The Comet,” to Mr. Percy Klock. He has been teaching at Mannsville since 1939. With Mr. Klock’s unselfish and wonderful guidance we, the Seniors, have reached our goal. We wish to thank him very sincerely for what he has done for us and will continue to do for others in the future. The Class of 1961 2 RECOGNITION OF Harold R. Wiley TO THE CLASS OF 1961” It is with sincere humility and honor that I received your request for a few words in your behalf. In my new position I find that the relationship between the students and myself is rather impersonal. I must confess that having been in the classroom holds very precious memories, especially with the Class of 61 . We experienced serious learning sit- uations and lighter moments together which indicates to me that you will be successful as a class on June 26, 1961, and definitely successful individually in the future. Thank you and good luck, IN MEMORY OF The class of 1961 wishes to edit this issue of the Comet to Kenneth Tousley, who graduated from the kindergarten in 1959. Kenneth was born in Syracuse, New York on May 9, 1953. 3 SUPERINTENDENT TO THE CLASS OF 61 What should one say to Seniors? Naturally you are happy because you have completed one phase of your educa- tion. Congratulations are in order on your success in attain- ing a goal. Does this graduation represent in every case the highest endeavor on the part of every member? Let us hope that everyone has learned to apply himself to every task which is assigned, and to continue to strive until the assign- ment has been completed. Let us hope that all have learned that success only comes through genuine effort. If everyone really has learned this lesson and appreciates the blessings o our form of government, where one can make a choice as to the future, the future of everyone will be most promising. Again, Congratulations! Sincerely yours, EARL E. CH ISA MORE EARL E. CHISAMORE PRINCIPAL TO THE SENIOR Learning is a continuous, personal life process. Signifi- cant at each milestone is an ever present desire to want to learn and become an increasingly responsible, self- disciplined individual, who stands for his convictions but respects the rights, strengths and weaknesses of others. America has been made great by men of initiative who acted positively and creatively, recognized their potentiali- ties and bent every effort to de velop them , were firm in their belief of the dignity and inherent worth of each man, and who freely accepted responsibility for their decisions, successes and failures. At this point, hearty congratulations. May wise choices lead you to future self realization, development and the strengthening of a free society. Donald E. Eastham, Principal DONALD E. Seven of our graduating class have been together through our thirteen years of school. They are: Helen Abbott, Wayne Allen, Bonnie Brown, Ronald Jacobs, Donald McKone, Nancy Stewart, and Gayle Pelton. During the elementary years we gained and lost many pupils. In the first grade Elizabeth Fone joined us; in the fourth, John Clement; and in the fifth grade we gained Sargent Frappier, Maynard Gillard, and Leonard Schryver. Arlene Kellogg joined our merry group in the sixth grade with Charles Thomson in the seventh. The eighth grade was where we got a large addition to our class. They were: Nancy Loomis, Elmo Loomis, Jesse Porter, and Larry Shultz. In our junior year Lou Deemer entered our group to complete our class. The next September we found our class in high school enjoying all the wonderful privileges we had looked forward to. During these last four years, we have had dances, parties, movies, and other interesting activities. We will always remember the Junior Prom, our Junior and Senior Plays, assembling this yearbook, and the ultimate goal — the trip to New York City during our Easter Vacation. We wish to thank all the teachers who have worked so faithfully these twelve years with us. Their teachings are priceless, for no one can take them from us. We give special thanks to Mrs. Joyner, Mrs. Cady, Mr. Dunn, Miss Crahan, and Mr. Smith, who have been our class advisors the last four To them we all give a special note of thanks i years , The Class of 1961 36 Elizabeth leaves her neatness and quiet manner to Pennie VanBrocklin.
