During these crucial times, the world needs men and women who can think clearly and will take their responsibilities seriously. The hope for solving the world's problems rests with Citizens who have an altruistic out-look upon life, who can see hevond their own interests. that they may serve their community, nation and the world. The only means of obtaining such citizens is in a program of education concerned with the intellect and an upprcciatioll Of our democratic heritage. It is mv sincere hope that Manning High School can afford you opportunities which will prepare every student for u dedicated task. You r superintendent. Congratulations upon the completion of a successful and full year of school activities. To those who are leaving Man- ning this year, our sincere wishes for your continued success. To those students who have not yet completed their high school work, may we offer a word of advice. The world de- mands a high degree of proficiency from the youth of today. Consider your present task seriously, and make sure to avail yourself of every opportunity to improve yourself. if-Q FLOYD LEE OVERBY Principal, A.B., Erskine College, M.Ed., Uni- versity of South Carolina. It is our purpose to furnish education, vocational, and personal guidanceg to make education for every student a valuable personal experience rather than a segment of edu- cation en masse, and to follow-up all of our students as they travel along life's highway. We constantly feel great pride both in the boys and girls who are members of our student body, and in the young men and women who leave our school, annually, to take their places as the citizens of our own and other communities. Our earnest desire is to teach, in our school, appreciation of moral and spiritual values as well as intellectual values. 'a, W. al X3 5 CURTIS LEE Algebra I, Algebra II, Drivers Education. The opposition frequently found that the going was 'arockyn around his end and that, if not closely watched, he would end up behind the de- fense. DARGAN ROGERS Dargan co-captained the 1958 Monarchs as center. A real bang- up player and spirit raiser. Often not too much credit is given to the center, but the responsibility of getting the ball to the backs rests solely with him. Dargan does this with utmost perfection. 90 ezzzor MARVIN BREWER A two-year man. Fine blocker and team player. A real stalwart on defense, although he saw con- siderable action on offense. Mar- Brewn is one of the biggest boys to play ball at MANNING. .IIM SPROTT One of the larger members of the team, Jim weighed about 205 pounds. There were many backs who wished they had run a differ- ent play after Jim threw his shoul- der into their midriff. A 'four-year man for MANNING. A. C. JACK MATTHEWS HCatfish7' was a real Gibraltar at tackle, offense and defense. Ball carriers were repeatedly dropped for losses when uCatfish went after them. A crushing tackler and blocker. Jack will be missed next year by all football enthusiasts. ai. 7jkyQZT5' EVERETTE HARRINGTON A first-year man, 6'Pinchy', did a lot to boost the morale of the team. A fine blocker and team guy, g'Pinchyl' is another of the fbig guys' on the team. Glen is a three- year man who gave his most to football. A bruising blocker and tackler. .D QVC , . ...J JOEY TAYLOR Joey was one of the better of the MANNINC aggregation. From his line-backer position he repeat- edly knocked down enemy passes and ball-carriers. As co-captain and full-back, he made Honorable mention ALL-STATE in his junior year, and Honorable mention All- Star in his senior year. fi BUDDY SPIGNER Buddy was one of the best pas- sers and broken-field runners in years at NIANNING.
