Truly, Manning High has many lovely girls. My choice for your Miss Mahiscan of 1957 is number 13. Choosing a queen from photographs was not an easy task. So much more than facial beauty goes into the making of an ideal American beauty. Beauty and poise are qualities desired by all women of today, but my idea of real beauty are these plus traits of humbleness, a concern for others, and the desire to serve her Maker, in whatever she seeks to undertake in life. To explain more fully my idea of an ideal American beauty, I will say that I think I have met a girl with the above characteristics -- your WMiss Manninan of l95b and our Miss Amerioa, Maria ' ' , my roommate, n Mcrinight. GEORGE EDGES MANNING An extra point was the difference as the St. George Eagles defeated the Monarchs in the open- ing game of the season, September 7, 13-12. Travis Brown scored both touchdowns on runs of 50 and 5 yards for the Monarchs, but two touchdowns and an extra point pass attempt were successful for the Eagles and provided the one-point margin. MANNING ROUTS MAYWOOD The Monarchs easily defeated the Rebels of May- wood on September 14, 31-0 giving many members of the Mbench squad a chance to see action. The first Monarch touchdown was made by Harold Du- Bose on a 19-yard end-run, and Bobby McKinney made a sparkling catch of a Phil Kennedy pass for the second tally. Kennedy, John Land and Bobby Wilson scored a touchdown, each in the last half, to wrap it 'up for the Monarchs. The entire offense and defensive teams played well for the Monarchs. Kennedy scored once, passed to McKinney, the Monarch top receiver, for another tallyg and DuBose ran for the other. Con- nor and Yarborough each scored for Timmonsville. SPROTT ROGERS B.
