From the time when he hrst took his post as Professor of Military Science and Tactics and Commandant of Cadets, we have felt that he knew our problems and dilhculties as well as the needs of the battalion. His understanding, his firmness and fairness in the discharge of his duties sprang from dual knowl- edge of his task because he was himself a cadet from 1929 to 1931 and because he gave front line service in WVorld Yvar II, hrst as an Infantry Battalion Commander, and later as an In- fantry Regimental Commander.
