1965 OAK LEAVES FAYETTEVILLE-AAAN LI US CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL MANLIUS, NEW YORK DISTRICT NUMBER ONE SENIORS TABLE OF CONTENTS FACULTY ACTIVITIES DEDICATION This is the end! I am absolutely not going to do this book again! she has said more times than she cares to admit. But it appears that she means it this time. For although she enjoys the yearbook tremen- dously, as her family grows, the demands on her time become more pressing. Her easygoing, informal classroom manner, and her quick sense of humor are school institutions near and dear to many Senior clods and every yearbook staff. So it is with sincere gratitude for many fine books, and with fondness and respect that we, the staff dedicate the 1 965 Oak Leaves to you, Mrs. Waaser. i. 3 rill u o 4 From left: Mr. George Beck, Mr. Charles Bumpus, Vice President; Mr. Edward Pasto, Assistant Superintendent of Schools; Mr. Harry Helsher, Business Mana- ger; Mr. Oliver Fardig, Mr. Robert Curtis, Superintendent of Schools; Mrs. Barbara Aronson, Mr. William Lipe, Mr. Francis Costello, President; Mr. Emil Schneider, Mrs. Margery Perkins, and Mr. James Kinsella. BOARD OF EDUCATION This year the Board of Education has added to its generally busy schedule the planning of two major building projects — the new Eagle Hill Junior High School and an addition to the Wellwood Junior High. Both buildings are scheduled for completion by the opening of school in September, 1965. FACULTY I ADMINISTRATION Mr. Merrell E. Lewis, our king , engaged in his favorite extracurricular activity —the tender, loving care of his Morgan. 1 ■ Mr. Wheeler, ubiquitous as always, hot on the trail of Eddie Zimmerman. Without the aid of this year's administration, our burgeon- ing student body could never have made it through the year. Though we see less of Mr. Lewis than ever, he still manages to stay in touch. Mr. Chester Griffin co-ordinated the nearly impossible activities calendar with familiar ease. And Mr. Platt Wheeler kept his tight ship running tight, occasionally bringing us up short to remind us that we are here for a serious purpose. Pressed for space, Mr. Griffin is searching for a club small enough to meet in the custodial equip- ment closet. GUIDANCE I I Mr. Albert Saunders, Mrs. Lorna Farnham, and Mr. Frederick Sheridan, hard at work on what they wish were the last college applications. LIBRARIANS NURSE Miss Alice Brown and Mrs. Frances McGarry relax gratefully between on slaughts of study hall goof-offs. OAK LEAVES STAFF Joey records another advance sale —the only sure way of getting a book on F-M Day. Remember that next year! 'My to-o-o-o-e! 'Don't get chicken fat on the page!' 'I signed My own book! The Oak Leaves staff is a group of carefully chosen students dedicated to the construction and publication of a yearbook which gives a complete and comprehensive picture of the school year. Yearbook work takes eleven months of the year; one book is no sooner finished than the next begun. Completed and mailed (hope- fully) in sections, the final result, a carefully guarded secret, is received sometime in late May. Distribution of the books on F-M day is the cause of much excitement and many cases of writer's cramp. Yearbook is supported by individual and business patrons, in addition to the sale of the book itself. Wait up, you guys! I'm supposed to be in charge of this mess .. m M 0 91 Row one: J. Ames, K. CONCERT CHOIR This year F-M's choir grew to almost 350 voices and main- tained its title as the largest school choir in New York State. F-M's Christmas-Chanukah Concert was a rare treat for those who attended. One of Syracuse's finest soloists, a double quartet of Hebrew cantors, the Pots- dam Brass Ensemble, F-M alumni, the select elementary school choir, and F-M's concert choir combined to tell the stories of Christmas and Chanukah with over 550 voices. In addition to his many activities at F-M, Mr. Allan A. Allen is a member of the Syracuse Drama Society, and directs a church choir. He held auditions for the All-State Conference Choir, was the chairman of the All-State Sectional at Cazenovia, and conducted the All-State Sectional at Watertown in March. Mr. Allen acts as a Music Workshop consultant for the Oswego State Teachers' College, and is one of the leading soloists of the Syracuse area. 93 Row one: C. Kirkley, C. Mack, B. Crusan, V. Dee, N. This year F-AA was again privileged to be represented by these three fine performers who traveled to Rochester where they took part in daily re- hearsals, clinics and performances. looking strangely dignified, John demonstrates the versatility of his instrument. Mr. Filmer gives the word! 103 HOMEROOMS CLASS OF '66 OFFICERS—Pam Lipe, Secretory; Jim Meyers, President; Cindy Meacham, Vice-President; Larry Shipps, Treasurer. It was only to be expected that the Junior class would have nothing less than an extremely successful year. Their large treasury continually increased as they glided through the football season selling pepsi and pizza, took in piles of money at the mixer before the JD-FAA football game, and sang-along to the music of a WNDR record hop. All of this led up to the incredible Junior Prom. They also came up with some unique possibilities for next year's senior privileges. Besides being clever and ambitious, the juniors excel in sports and studies. A commendable background, indeed, for their senior year to come. 106 MRS. Starting out with an ample amount of money in their treasury, they spent the first semester planning for a hopefully successful mixer in the spring. Although underclassmen, they have con- tributed greatly to the high scholastic average and worthy projects of our school. The role of upperclassmen should come easily to this outstanding group. 112 MISS RAINERI. First row, right to left: B. Carroll, J. Brooks, D. Bennett, E. Bottrill, D. Chapman, T. Burt, J. Bolinski. CLASS OF '68 118 Once again this year, another group of lost and be- wildered freshmen wandered our hallowed halls, pitifully begging directions. Witnesses to the death of an ancient, beloved tradition, Freshman orienta- tion, they became oriented without the assistance of the Senior class. Now an integral part of the school their healthy treasury was increased with the pro- ceeds from the annual peanut brittle sale. The class handled a booth at the National Honor Society Carnival with expected ease, as they do all their projects—fine material indeed for three more years of maintaining the F-M standard of excellence. The highlight of the Little Hornets' season came with a 42-0 win over Liverpool. Their other three games were lost by small margins, and Coach McMullen and Coach Dauenhauer have conditioned them well for future use on the J. V. and Varsity teams. FROSH FOOTBALL 61 M.
