CLASS HISTORY The class of 55 has the distinction of being the second to graduate from F-M. Some of the traditions which were new last year have become tried and true parts of our everyday school life. This section is the story of the last two years of the Class of 55 . After meeting their new classmates, the class settled down to business (some of it monkey IgOsi- ness!) and elected junior executives: Ed Buchwald, president; Cynnie Greene, vice-president; Helen Fleckenstein, secretary; Ted Eaton, treasurer. Football, of course, started off the sporting year. Dave Park, Jerry Ager, Gus Petcos, Jerry Aylesworth, and Tom Knapp were some of the 55ers who participated on Varsity. The team had a good season and finished in second place. Basketball was the big sport that year, however. Three boys made the Varsity: Dan Lynch, Bill Ray, and Ed Buchwald. The team won the County Championship and went a long way in the sec- tionals. The J. V. team also won the County Championship. Then there were traditions for the juniors to help start. After careful planning and deciding, the Ring Committee submitted a handsome ring that was to be the symbol of Fayetteville-Manlius. The class had its share of celebrities. Helen Fleckenstein went to Girls' State, while Dave Park and Ed Buchwald went to Boys' State. Student Council elections came along, and everyone got on the band wagon and supported his candidate. Cynnie Greene came out on top, closely followed by the other candidates. Climaxing the year was a Junior Prom to beat all Junior Proms! As seniors the class came back to F-M ready and almost willing to go to work after a busy and varied summer. They settled right down and elected as class officers Dave Park, president; full as ours Bussie McBride, vice-president; Nancy Goodfellow, secretary; Barb Hood, treasurer. The class held the annual initiation of those creatures called freshmen. The initiation, planned to be more constructive and less destructive, came off without mishap and was somewhat better than the faculty and everyone else expected. The 1955 sports year will long be remembered at F-M for its County Champion football team and the great C.B.A. game. The lineup was studded with too many seniors to name here. However, some of those who received All County and All State recognition were: Dave Park, Gus Petcos, Jerry Ager, Ed Buchwald. At this writing, the basketball team looks as though it is off to an- other successful season. Those seniors on the first team are Ed Buchwald, Bill Ray, Dan Lynch, and Tom Muench. The seniors found that some of their classmates were in the limelight. Inger Gjervan, the tall, pretty exchange student from Norway, with Dave Lane and Ted Eaton, exchange students during the sum- mer, traveled to several schools to give assemblies. Dave Lane was elected president of the Central New York Student Council, and Barb McIntosh was elected secretary. Time rushed by, leaving behind parties, dances, games, and an occasional exam or two. Many seniors had started thinking of the future as they visited colleges or employment offices. Some were definitely thinking in terms of the present as they labored over Miss Conklin's term paper. Then— it was May and time for the traditional Senior Ball, and graduation was upon us. The class of 55 leaves its Alma Mater, with feelings of both gladness and sadness. They can only say to those classes coming up behind them-— May your high school years be as happy and as have been. J [10]
