Take time to smell the lilacs And feel the warm bright sun, Take time to look at rainbows Don’t wait ’til work is done. There’ll always be a cobweb Some fingermarks or rust Weeds to pull, a lawn to mow And something gathering dust. We must remember lilacs Bloom just once a year and you can see a rainbow Only when it’s here. 3 STAFF Dean Metz • Superintendent, B.S. from Northern Illinois University; M.S. from Illinois State University John Smith • Principal, Assoc. And lastly, to all the seniors that are going on the trip, the best and wildest time we could possibly have!!! REUNION - 1997 Welcome underclassman to the newly established town of Manlius. The graduating class of 1987 is proud to have you visit our town. The town was established the summer after we graduated. We will start the tour on Main St. and proceed through showing you our residents and area businesses. Feel free to take as many pictures and ask as many questions as you want. The first resident to be recognized is Richard Townsend. He is the proud owner of Richard’s Rave, the only barber shop in town. Rich’s new strainer haircut is a popular fad among the residents. Next, if you would turn to your left, you will see the town dump. Our sanitorial engineer, Chris Wirth, runs this business. If not at the dump, Chris can be found at home with wife Tara and kids. Now we’re going to pass the newly built white house where Dana and Susan Vance are residing. Dana left the mayoral position of Dingly and is now the mayor of our town. We will be stopping now at our only tavern in Manlius, which is run by John Kirkhove. John’s Jug is busy every night and always jammed with wall to wall people. Our course one reason for so much business is the live entertainment. John's high school sweetheart, Liz Hedrick, is the entertainment. You can come and listen to the Bangels, with Liz as the lead singer, perform nightly. Our next residents have been busy on their new toy which was patented for the Mattel Toy Company. Pat and Heidi’s Yo-Yo Company is manufacturing gumby yo-yo’s by the thousands. Heidi can be found at home working on the business's computer while watching their kids. For any legal problems contact Stickle’s Law Firm, located downtown. Steve’s Harvard degree in law has made him one of the most wealthy residents of the town. But his heart still lies in politics. Steve is now engaged with his campaign for governor, hoping to do everyone a favor by beating Jim Thompson. If for any reason, Steve is not available you can contact Amy Polte. Attorney Polte has made quite a successful name for herself. Her special ‘'gobble-technique” can be heard throughout the court rooms. Our most prosperous resident is Jeff Hochstatter. After high school, Jeff went to college and studied the art of baking. Elf’s Cookie Factory is the result. Unfortunately, Jeff has a hard time getting any baking done because as in high school, he is constantly arguing. Tracy Vance and Vickie Wangelin have just recently bought out the John Amico’s School of Hair Design and replaced it with their own chain. Tracy Vickie are always busy on the road with their trade shows. We have one motel in our small town, it is located on the outskirts near Route 88. Gayle Hartz and Monica Nodine put their AVC education together and opened their own motel. Gayle manages the kitchen and has since she married the Chef. Monica manages the motel and makes special appearances on the TV series. Hotel, opposite James Brolin. If you have noticed, all the buildings and homes have something in common, they are designed by Dexter Hansen. Dex and wife, Andrea, live in the only solar home, which he designed also. We have one area farmer that supports our little town. Jeff Jaques, manager of Jaques Farms, is a grain and livestock farmer. Jeff and wife, Jen, have 70 hired men to accomodate for the size of their farm and several thousand head of hogs they raise. Our next stop will be for refreshments at our only fast food restaurant. Ronda and Kurt Geldean own and manage McRonda s. 1 guess all those long hours spent working at McDonald’s in Princeton have made her a successful business woman. Last but not least, is myself, Rebecca Martin, who was chosen to take you for this tour. I am now in between touring with the Harlem Globetrotters. Being the first white woman on the team is real exciting. I guess this proves that my years with Coach Lane and the Lady Red Devils have paid off. Last but, not least, I would like to thank you for visiting and touring our town. 40 ORGANIZATIONS FFA From left to right front row • Brian Davis. Bob Whittaker. Jeremy Foes.
