I realize that being a forest ranger in Wyoming is a very important job, but, you should have seen some of the looks I got when I explained that “National Fire Prevention Week” had kept you from coming. Almost all of our class was able to come. I though that you might be interested in Finding out what the rest of our classmates were doing. I think that the classmate who suprised me most was Eddy Notschaele. He’s become an activist. It seems that Ed is now leading a national movement to include Rolle Bolle in the Olympics. If he succeeds, Ed plans to coach the US team himself. Our exchange student from high school, Katrin Dahl, came back to the US for a visit and to come to our reunion. She has become sole owner of the only Baskin Robins in Sweden and plans to open three more stores soon. Linda Kelly and Dan Sleaford, our favorite high school sweethearts, got married and settled down near Manlius. Linda went on to beauty school and I understand that she is doing pretty good at it — or at least better than her first attempt on Dan. On the other hand, I doubt if Dan gave her a second chance. After going to Blackhawk, Dan took up farming with his dad. He also is the drivers’ education teacher at the high school. I guess patience really is a virtue. Linda Hartz went on to college after high school and then got married. She really gets into family traditions — she has two sets of twins plus one. Steve Morman also went to work at the high school after attending Blackhawk. He became the new Ag. teacher after his father-in-law, Mr. Lane, retired. Dee Dee Hartz couldn’t make it to our reunion. She sent a letter explaining that the farm and business in Iowa just kept her too busy and that she couldn’t get away. Quite a few of our classmates settled down right in Manlius. Kathy Miller and Theresa Sugars joined up in partnership and started their own restaurant franchise. Some things never change, though, the townspeople still refer to the restaurant as “the greasy spoon”. Rodney Hard became the head accountant for Hard’s Village Shop. He must have really mastered the art of bookkeeping since high school. He still has a few problems with those chocolate-marshmallow sundaes though. Of all the people in our class to get filthy rich, we should have known it would be Shelly Carpenter. She won $1 million in the Illinois State Lottery. I asked her what she could possibly do with all that money. She told me that she had tried to buy Cinderella’s Castle but Walt just wouldn’t sell. Marcie DeBrock is now the Vice President of Citizens First National Bank of Princeton. I wonder what her boss would say if he knew she used to do her bookkeeping by counting on her fingers. Mark Hansen went on to have a very successful basketball career after high school. He made enough money to retire by age 28 and then he became co-owner of the golf course just outside of Princeton. I’m sure that no marriage was involved in the deal. Chris Miller got married right after high school. She told me that she spends all of her time clipping coupons, being a professional soap-opera watcher, and taking care of her two children. Roger Figurin couldn’t make it to the reunion. He was busy with rehearsels for the Broadway production of “Bye Bye Birdie” in New York City. His career is going straight up hill. He’ll probably be the first one of our class to win an Oscar. Sarah Christensen went to Bradley and became the first woman athletic trainer for the Chicago Cubs. She must have learned something in college because, surprisingly, they’ve started winning after a ten-year losing streak. Bill Chesser must have really liked all of that stand-working in high school. It seems that Bill opened up his own concession stand near the high school and runs it during all the athletic events. I guess that all of that noonball experience really paid off for Raymond DeBrock. He got a contract with a professional baseball team. Ray’s career was shortlived though. The first time he skipped spring training to help A1 in the field, he was fired. Rod Jaggers’ athletic career was a little more successful. He won a gold medal in the Olympics and then became head track coach at ISU. The only other class member who couldn’t make it to the reunion was Mark Powers. It seems that he got a call from a talent scout shortly after we got back from our class trip to California. He said he was sorry but that he was too busy making movies to come. He sent us all T-shirts from the Mark Powers’ line of clothing. Vic Morgan just finished his hitch with the Army a few years ago. Now he’s working on the grand opening of Vic’s Body Shop — which is, of course, an exercise club for women only. Still the same old Vic. By the way, if you think I got some funny looks when I told everyone why you couldn’t be there, you should have seen their faces when I told them I had 25 kids. Don’t worry. I explained that I had become a teacher and the 25 kids were my fourth grade class. Well, I guess that covers all of the graduates from the class of ‘81’. It sure was fund to see the old gang and talk about old memories. Keep in touch and say hello to Val for me. I never could understand how you got her to live in that ranger’s station. Love ya, Joni 24 CLASS OF 1981 — WILLS I, Shelly Carpenter, being of sound mind and tired body, do hereby will to Rita Peterson my ability to look like I am doing something important whenever I am caught in the hallway, and also to Mike Foy my ability of playing catch behind stage during play practice and not getting caught. 1, Bill Chesser, will Mike Rowland and the BROWN BOMB road crew all the Miller times they may need in the future; also, as advice to the freshmen, avoid hangovers — stay drunk. 1, Sarah Christensen, being of exhausted mind and tortured body, do hereby leave to Sheila Doty and Mrs. Hahne the ability to chauffeur the “Champagne Greenies” all that way and still come out sane. 1, Katrin Dahl, being of sound Swedish mind and body do hereby will my Swedish talents and my Swedish citizenship to Dan Fuhr and Mark Lane, since they don’t have any talents. TOP TEN SENIORS CLASS OF 1981 VALEDICTORIAN SARAH CHRISTENSEN SALUTATORIAN LINDA HARTZ 26 CLASS TRIP On Monday, June 1st, the Seniors packed up and headed out on their week-long trip to sunny California. After a little airsickness and four hours, we arrived at the Los Angelos Airport. R We then drove to San Diego for a three-day stay. While there we visited Shamu and friends at Sea World, went to the San Diego Zoo, and took in the Padres baseball game. On our way back to Anaheim, we hit the beach with our Illinois tans and visited the Mission at San Juan Capistrano. Thursday night we attended Senior Grad Nite at Disneyland which included everything from Space Mountain and the carousel to Kool and the Gang. Then after a short pit stop at our hotel, we were on our way again — to NBC and Universal Studios. In the afternoon we toured through Beverly Hills. Saturday we went to Knott’s Berry Farm and the Hollywood Wax Museum. Sunday was a free day which we spent everywhere from the ball game and mountains to the beaches. MANLIUS HIGH SCHOOL FLT 75 CHECK IN HERE Monday it was back to the airport and then home — with a few minor delays. Through all of the sunburn, tours, waterfights, surfing, shopping, shaving cream, and van rides, we found that we had a lot more to bring home than just souvineirs. We had a weekfull of fun and memories to last a lifetime. JUNIORS - CLASS OF “82” The first event that affected the junior class was the delayed arrival of our class rings. The day finally came and everyone rushed to the office to receive the rings that would always remind us of our high school years. Homecoming week was as exciting as ever. Our theme this year was “Looks Like We’ll Dunk’em Donut” which got a “soggy” third place. Our attendants were Dan Sale and Sherry Hansen. The Prom Committee soon began their plans with the first major decision being the choice of the band. Our attendants were Sheila Doty, Jamie Oberle. In order to raise some money, we decided to have a fish supper which was held on March 6. As we saw another year pass by quickly, we began to realize it was our turn to be Seniors!! 30 Dennis Chasteen Sheila Doty Shelly Eissens Dan Fuhr Sherry Hansen Dawn Hotchkiss Kim Mullin Jamie Oberle Krista Oloffson Todd Polte Larry Rowland Dan Sale Pam VanDeKeere Penny White 31 The Sophomore Class of 1981 started out the year with a bang. (Some more than others!) As always, Homecoming was great this year. Along with the primary pleasure of the team winning the game, our great float, bearing the original name “We’ll Whip ’Em!”, got 2nd place! Our attendants were Robbie Hix and Diane Chasteen for the Homecoming dance. Having already completed our first money-making project, the sale of plain and peanut M M’s which brought us a tidy sum near $325, we started our second project of the year. A raffle was planned with the first place prize being an AM Fm radio and cassette player. Second prize was $25 worth of gas with third prize of $15 of gasoline, both from Doty’s Service Station. We were told last year that the Sophomore year is the worst year of high school unless your class akes it fun, and we think we’ve done just that. As we look back at all of our crazy stunts and English speeches and Driver’s Ed. in-car “experiences,” we look forward to the experience of being “Upper Classmen!!” SOPHOMORES — CLASS OF “83” Class Officers are left to right; John McReynolds, President; Kevin Morman, Vice President; Robert DeBrock, Secretary; Rita Peterson, Treasurer. 32 Shari Cuchiara Pete Christensen Robert DeBrock Amy Erickson Becky Foster Mike Foy Trudy Gerbitz Teri Hedrick Robbie Hix Kathy Lane Eileen Martin John McReynolds Kevin Morman Susie Noonan Chery Notschaele Rita Peterson Adrienna Rombouts Joe Roush Tammy Sugars Dawn Tracy 33 FRESHMAN — CLASS OF “84” H Freshman class officers are: left to right — Kim Peterson, President; Darla Black-■8 ert, Vice President; Kim Frank, Secretary; Tara Johnson, Treasurer. Our Freshman career began one bright and cheery morning as we were dragged out of bed in our pajamas and escorted to the high school for breakfast. Following breakfast we serenaded the Senior football players who were practicing that morning. On the first day of school we were covered with lipstick which was followed by baby food dinners and onion power as the weeks passed on!! During Homecoming Week, we selected Catherine Christensen and John Daley as the attendants for the royalty. Our float in the parade was titled “It’s a Good Year and ‘Wheel’ Win’ which received fourth place in the judging. During the Holiday Tournament in December our class raffled a $100 bill and a clock radio which made our class richer by about $500. 34 John Daley Dana Doty Michelle Foy Kimberly Frank Rodney Hewitt James Jensen Tara Johnson Dee King Sandra Lootens Arthur Lowder Michael McVey Bonnie Michlig Eugene Moore Kimberly Peterson Mike Rowland Sen Hang Saechao Tina Sugars Andrea Wise 35 SUPERINTENDENT — Henry R.
